Mission COMPLETE!!! ALL Festool goals for the shop purchased!

Frank, where is the big  boom arm you got if i remember correctly.....? Come on you are only showing half of the stuff...

I have to wait until my shop floor is redone. We are sinking a steel beam into the floor and anchoring it above the ceiling in order to support the boom. My contractor has worked out all the math, and it will work great once we complete the shop. Slow process when I can only spend a few weeks at a time in my Florida house for the moment. (Have to spend quality time with my wife and son in Georgia where my wife is currently stationed, then back to the grind for six weeks in Nigeria. Ugh!  Nonetheless, progress is slowly being made.

Other than machinery, the following steps are still in process:

1. Floor of the shop being completely laid with Porcelain tile. (Yup... it's a new thing but those who have done it rave!)
2. Complete electrical wiring with 110 and 220 outlets throughout. Need as high a a 50amp 220V breaker for my 20" Italian Bandsaw, with its 6HP Baldor.  Then the rest can be 30 or lower. Single person shop, so no more than two machines (including the DC unit) on any time
3. Ducting through the attic and down into the shop for my Dust Collection of the big machines
4. 2.5 ton AC/HEAT/DEHUMIDIFIER being installed in June. (Shop is 1000SF and Mitsubishi unit I'm installing has dedicated dehumidifying when AC and HEAT are not needed. Want to match the humidity with the internal level in the house to keep wood from moving when moved into the house from being built in the shop)
5. Boom Arm installation with California Air Compressor in the Attic for noise reduction. Air hoses feed to far walls and through the Boom Arm's Energy/Air box.

Machines....to add...
Selling my 3HP Sawstop PCS and purchasing a 5HP Sawstop ICS.  Current TS has router table attached, and has Incra fence, positioner, and rails. New one will be TS only with Incra TS/LS Positioner.
Dedicated Router Table with under table DC and Incra Wonderfence Positioner.
Jet Oscillating Drum Sander 22-44
Probably a Grizzly 20" Floor mounted Disc Sander.
CNC Shark HD3

Current heavy iron already in the shop:

Hammer A3-41 with Silent Partner head
Laguna Italian 20" Bandsaw
Laguna 14"SUV Bandsaw
Delta 18-900L Drill Press
Powermatic "Mustard Monster" 3520B Lathe
Laguna REVO 10/16 Mini-Lathe
DeWalt DW788 Scroll Saw
SawStop 3HP PCS with attached Router Table driven by Porter Cable 7518 and Jessum Router Lift. (To be sold)
JDS 3HP Cyclone Dust Collector with Mobile dust drum.
JDS AirTech HP Air Filtration unit.

That's where I sit at the moment as I work towards completing my "Lifelong Woodshop". Working on it...IF I can keep off of FOG long enough to get some work done! [blink]  When it's done, I'll have my ultimate shop and will feel good retiring in 10 years or so with something to do that I'm passionate about (also deep-sea fishing and photography), rather than sitting around waiting for the end!

Cheers,

Frank

I don't remember if I mentioned this to you or not (sorry if I did), but a few months ago I decided to run a VacSys vacuum line through the boom arm. I already had the compressed air. The only reason for mentioning it is because if you do it, it is a lot easier to snake an extra hose through the boom arm before you mount it. Getting the hose to turn the corner at either end of the boom is a pain.

I don't know about your setup, but I like to keep the vacuum pump sitting on my CT36. So running the vacuum line through the boom arm makes it a lot easier to use the head without a hose running across the floor.

I got hold of some extra VacSys quick connect couplers, which are much nicer to use than standard couplers we have in the U.S. So the hose terminates at the end of the boom arm and I connect into that when I want VacSys.

Rick,

That's a heck of a plan.  Do you lose any vacuum pressure with a long hose?  My VacSys unit is currently sitting on the floor under my MFT/3 with a 5000VA Step up/down transformer driving it. Works really well, but what you've suggested is intriguing. I'd love to see some pictures of how you've configured it.

By the way, I received my OF 2200 yesterday from Bob Marino. In the box, he had a color printed version of your Supplemental Manual for the router. Can I just say that it is so comprehensive, it can certainly be called "AWESOME"!!  MAN you write tech well! My father was the VP of Fujitsu's Technical Documentation Center before he finally retired. He would have loved your manuals!

If you ever want a nice vacation in Florida, come on down, but I probably wouldn't let you out of the shop while I learn!  [big grin] Please make more videos like your cabinet build. They are superb!

Cheers,
Frank

In a thread that's already dedicated to tool porn, I guess I may as well one-up-ya.  [big grin]

I took this picture a couple weeks ago because someone on Facebook had the audacity to tell me I needed to buy a Dyson vacuum.  [scared]

The "picture ham" (that's the cat) is standing on the VacSys pump on top of the CT36. To answer your first question, no, there isn't any drop in vacuum with length. Because there is virtually no air flow through the hose, there isn't a pressure drop. It's just like the voltage on a long, long wire. If there isn't any current flowing, there won't be a voltage drop. The only time you will have any appreciable air flow through the vacuum line is if you've disconnected the hose. So the pressure (vacuum) at the far end will be the same as at the pump.

The new vacuum line is fairly small, and if you look close, it is passing right in front of the coupler between the green and clear CT-vac hoses just to the upper-left of the cat. It's only 1/4" ID, and is the same hose material that you can see hanging on the wall to the far left (blue and red hoses).

At the VacSys pump, rather than try to make a Festool fitting fit onto my hose, I coupled a short section of Festool hose (with the quick connect on it) to my hose. At the far end of the boom arm, it was easier and I just used common plumbing fittings to mate the Festool male coupler to a 1/4" hose barb.

Another thing that I've done is remove the guard from the top of the foot pedal. I didn't feel the need to have it, and it was a pain. So with a brand new Vecturo, this was what I used to try it out for the very first time. I took the pedal apart to make sure I only cut through the guard.

I also mounted it to a board for weight and drilled a hole through that to set an MFT leg through. P.S. I deliberately left the quick coupler in the picture so others can see it and how it differs from U.S. quick couplers.

Congratulations, I myself am about 6 tools and a large  mobile shop(I live in hurricane country, so I want to be able to beat feet)  away from your point.  Enjoy

Very impressive, Frank. And I have to admit I am quite proud to see the systainer with the red latch in there!

[thumbs up]

Frank

I would like to volunteer as your shop butler while you are in Nigeria and Georgia.  I will make sure everything is put through their paces and don't get lonely why you are gone.

That's cute- you think you're done buying Festools!

Nice stacks.

I can a back window sticker like this for us addicts. You know, the family stick figure decals, dad, mom, 2 kids and a dog on the back of minivans?

I could see stacked systainer decals of the Festool family!

[size=48pt]This is so sad Frank.

As you know, many have enjoyed reading your purchasing updates and now our journey of 'vicarious' purchasing is at an end.

It's nice being home in the USA. Brown Trucks, Red lettered trucks, and USPS trucks all bringing me more goodies daily!

Today, Betterley decided to visit my shop.  Zero-Clearance insert for my Kapex, and their Straight Line Connector for Festool Rails.

I also got the Festool Rail Connectors, though I still scratch my head over that purchase. You MUST have two of them to properly connect the rails, but for whatever silly reason, Festool sells them one at a time. It is simply beyond my understanding why you should have to order two separately, instead of them selling as a set! [huh] Does ANYONE just order one?? [doh]

I've decided to order the Metric accessory kit for the OF 2200 vs the Imperial set. I can pick up a set of Porter Cable style brass imperial guide bushings easily in the States, and the metric's might be more difficult to acquire here. Took me awhile to figure that out, but thanks to help on FOG, it becomes a no-brainer.

More shipments tomorrow!  Yayyyy!! [big grin] (No machines, just accessories and consumables)

Cheers,

Frank

I showed my wife the photo and her response was "is he showing off or did his wife throw him out of the house"?

The truth is that 80% of the tools in those systainers REPLACED existing lesser tools which were either sold or given away.

I still have a few power tools to sell that have been replaced by Festool Goodness. Some were never used and still in NEW condition.

The only heavy duty NEW tools I've never had anything to compare to are the Conturo and the Vac-Sys system.

As for the wife... she gets a kick out of stopping people who begin to ask if I might have a particular tool they might want to borrow or use. She cuts them off at "does he have"...and says "STOP...He Has It, whatever it is!".  She doesn't complain...much. I've repaired a lot of things in our house, especially damage from military moves... and I've made her a lot of things that she appreciates. Plus, I send her on cruises with my son when I'm in Nigeria and she is on vacation. She doesn't want to end that!

As someone else said recently..."I hope that if I die, she doesn't sell my Festools for what I "told" her I had paid for them!!"

Cheers,

Frank

The last tool store I was in that sold Festool didn't have that many systainers. Simply awesome.

Normally I would feel indifference to someone posting pictures of that much Festool gear but I like what you're doing and why you're doing it.

You could also seriously trump some of the guys on here with the size of your stack but your greatest accolade at the moment might be the biggest collection of unused Festool tools known to man. I do follow your posts and your busy life but it really is time that you posted pictures of something (anything) that you have made. No excuses, no living in 17 different time zones and all that, just make something.

I say all this with the best of intent and it's in no way a dig. I challenge you to come up with something in the next 2 months or we will have to nickname you "All the gear, no idea."

Maybe FOG users could come up with suggestions for your next project.

How about a rolling ladder, or cherry picker, or maybe a hoist -- to get to all the Systainers?

No, no, and an emphatic NO.  -1 if you ask me.  give ol' Frank a break, dudes.  It's simply not right to threaten the guy with a nickname just because he does not build stuff on your schedule or according to some committee suggestions.  It's true that he's rather obsessive with the bragging--perhaps he's compensating for something, who knows--that's between him and his therapist.  It's true  that a majority of his posts basically remind everyone who would still care to listen of the same things over and over:  lifetime tool plan, wife in the service so was able to bring naina this and that over here, laundry lists of apple, festool and canon gear, to the minute updates of ups and fedex delivery schedules, yelps of "i'm so sick and addicted", yada, yada, yada...  You guys just don't get it:  that's his JOY, pure and simple.  And his prerogative on an open forum to continue his posts as only he sees fit.  It really is not that unusual for a great many on any forum or club to be gatherers rather than makers.  we try to teach our kids not to be constant braggarts and we try to instill in them the philosophy that "doing beats having" any day of the week.  but that's because it is our job to do so.  It is definitely NOT our job to browbeat a fellow forum member into making anything just because we have expectations that differ from his own.  Let the guy do his thing and enjoy himself and go read some other posts.  It's really that simple.  After all this is not the FUG (Festool User's Group).  May I remind you that it's the FOG as in: Frank's Owned Goods--sorry, couldn't resist a bit of levity there...

And by the way when you suggest on a forum that others post their projects you know what happens every single time--they're going to start asking:  hey dude where's your project, huh?--you got two months to show the committee something so you better get off the thread and get into your shop--how would that feel if the proverbial table was reversed?

I like your style, sir. Let a man do what he sees fit and what gives him joy.

And Frank, that's truly impressive no matter the reason you bought all that or how much of it you've used or what you've built with it all.

Festool does many things for each of us but I think one common thing is Festool generally is joyful to work with. Let's just focus on that.

It was meant as friendly banter and was in no way a threat. Of course he is free to do exactly as he pleases and hallelujah to that. It's what a friend used to say to me when he saw my Festool stack except in this case he used to say it in front of my customers!

I have absolutely no doubt that Frank is already an accomplished woodworker, I'd just like to see him in action with his new toys. I'm sure he can't wait either.

Frank,

Please Sir, correct me if I'm wrong.  But I counted 54 systainers in your original post.

ONLY 54 Sir?    LOL !    You need to max out your credit card  and catch up Sir!

My last count was well over 60 systainers !      And I've built a thing or two!        [tongue]    [poke]  [poke]

(this post was written for friendly banter, nothing more)

Eric

Since Eric churns out sysports faster than most change underwear, maybe he will send you some!  He loves helping other members increase their stacks.
