Mitre saw stand

This won't help our friends in Europe and the UK, but the post by jonathan-m reminded me that I saw this Universal Stand at Menard's.  Shortened version (31" long) of a miter saw stand with adjustable legs to vary the height from 28-1/4" to 32-1/8".

I know a guy who cut down his full size dewalt stand. He took 8 inches off so it would fit in his short box truck. I have always had trouble with the length of the stand but had never considered that. I'm thinking I might do the same

I have a very small shed to so everything needs to be as compact as possible.
Therefore I modified a DeWalt DE7035 work stand to house my Kapex. (Love these things BTW)

To make sure it's the same height as my MFT/3 I trimmed the legs a bit.
To further decrease it's footprint I also trimmed off the excess width of the beam.
And because the legs of the stand don't butt up to the wall, when the saw is mounted, I put the Kapex on an MDF top. This way I can place both the saw and the legs of the stand right against the wall, saving precious floor space.
The result is compact, portable and surprisingly stable.

exactly what i was thinking, thanks for chiming in.

the hard part for non kapex folks is mounting extension wings directly to the saw. I'll be using threaded rod through some holes in the base that came with the tool for short extensions made from metal rod.

For anyone thinking of shortening their "traditional" miter stand, make sure to measure your legs, so you can still fold them in for transport ;)

While not quite the same as the one in your link. We can get shorter versions of the dewalt style stand in the uk, complete with extensions

Dewalt does make a smaller version with the extensions also. Personally, I'm not sold on the stability and longevity of those vs something built into the wings.

The smaller Dewalt stand is a better choice over the sawhorses because it gives you more flexibility for out feed support. I used the sawhorse as a mitersaw stand with Bessey k body clamps as out feed supports. I always have the clamps(12"-5") on the truck and the pieces of this setup were compact but not the strongest. I'm going to get the smaller Dewalt stand which will be easier to set up on some of the smaller job sites. The big Dewalt stand is nice because you can mount two saws on it at the same time! I have two sets of handmade wooden wings 5' and 8' which mount to the stand with two extra Dewalt supports. [attachimg=1][attachimg=2][attachimg=3][attachimg=4]

I agree, the two saws is very nice.

I really like your flip stops. I'm wondering how I can make or integrate a flipstop product that would work with the T track mounted flush with the wing surface. I want to mount them in a dado to keep the track safer and allow wings to stack a little easier in the back of a messy truck. I may end up making something but I really want to be able to flip up and down for rough cut/ finish cut speed.

I'm thinking the underside of the extension may be a shelf space like rPaulk.

Curt,
How did you mount the kapex to the dewalt stand brackets?  Any mods to the rubber feet or brackets?  Thanks!!!!

I removed the rubber feet and bolted it directly to the Dewalt brackets. I dadoed my t- tracs flush with the wing surface. The added bonus of the Dewalt is you can hang your nail guns or your jigsaw for coping on the square extension tubes with cheap s- hooks from Depot.[attachimg=1]
