Thanks for showing the process [member=1619]SRSemenza[/member] .  I think I'm going to have to do the same -- I actually just recently bought the Sys-MFT so I can move the lid over to an empty Sys-II.  It just gets tiresome with the hose and cord not fitting all the way in the upper part, and when I stack mine on the Sys-roll or sys-cart I usually have to take off the cord and put it in another case.  BTW, have you checked to see if you can fit a 36mm hose in the upper systainer?

I just tried the D36 ....................... about half or so fits. Probably (?) get the whole length into a Sys - III.

I have a 36mm 3metre Nilfisk hose which fits easily. Seth is right though, 3.5metre hose won't fit. Tom

I have a question for Seth and TomTom1984. You both located the hose opening slightly differently and I am wondering now, after using your version if you would have located the hose in the same spot or somewhere else.

Asking because I'm thinking about moving my SYS-MFT lid to a spare Sys II or a III and modifying to use with my CT-SYS. I'm leaning toward a III so I can carry a couple sanders and paper along and fit everything for sanding away from the shop in one box more or less.

I was thinking if I go with a Sys III about making the hose opening lower to avoid the threat to the hose a saw might pose as was mentioned earlier in this thread. But that would mean having to thread the hose through the opening and not just laying it in the notch and closing the lid. And I have a sleeved hose with cord that I plan to use in place of the supplied hose and that would not be as easy to thread through an opening or require a larger opening.

Anything else anyone would change or add?

I didn't have a reason for the location other than centering it in that flat space. Or maybe that I thought it would be easier to  drill / cut away from the bends in the side.

I think that putting the hose through a hole down lower would get to be a pain real fast. Regardless of how smooth. But you could try it a little lower and if it doesn't work just cut the top out to make a slot. I would say just be careful not to cut the hose or cord.

As far as space goes .................................  The CT-SYS hose is shorter than a regular hose to begin with, and also is a straight D27 full length (not the new standard 32 /27). And to make it easier to get the attachments to fit I also shortened mine by about another 16".  You will find that a lot of the fitment for other items depends on a very flexible hose.

I would test everything in a Sys-III before cutting and remember that a little space is needed for the 90 vac end fitting.

What sanders are you thinking?

Haven’t given this much thought but in a Sys 3 you might be able to just sweep the hose and exit near the top instead of using the sharp 90* bend fitting. Don’t know how significant the bend is in reducing air flow, I just try to avoid them.

Well, my current possibilities include the RO125, RTS400, RAS115, ETS 125 and I have the Systainers they came in of course but going mobile I was thinking of only taking one or two and being able to put them in the Sys II or III with the hose and enough of whatever grit papers I need to get me through the current task.

Yes, I was thinking fishing the hose through a hole vice dropping it into the slot would be a pain, but if the opening was large enough to accept the 90 then I would only need to push about 14 inches in from outside not feed the whole house through from the inside out.

Either that or hard-pipe an extension to the port on the CT-SYS to the outside and plug the hose in there.  I would like to use my sleeved hose with the integrated plug-it-cable in place of the hose supplied with CT-SYS, so locating the hose connection close to the power outlet on the vac would be a plus. I think I will investigate this option before I go any further or make any modifications to my Systainers.

I think you will find it to be a difficult fit with two of those sanders and the hose you want to use even without the hard connection. If you add a hard pipe connection I am pretty sure it will take up too much space to fit the rest in.

Is the hose one that you sleeved yourself or is it the Festool one that has the zippered cover?

I'd say you will have better luck just putting all the vac stuff in the vac Sys. And combining sanders into a separate one.

I'm interested to see how it works out.

My current configuration showing the power cord. I went with a short cord attached to the CT and add an extension cord. Packs easier this way.  I find the original cord too long and cumbersome.

Nice! Been thinking of this and meaning to do it since I got mine 2+ years ago. Sadly the mft sys just hasn’t worked it’s way to the top of my purchase list yet. . . There’s always so much in that list. When will it end

It's a Festool sleeved 5M hose. You have given me reason to think hard about what I propose to do, but I am still interested to see if it's possible. So I will work on scrounging up the bits I need to do what I think will work and then see if I'm dreaming or not.

I will report back in this thread but it won't happen in the next couple weeks.

Lots to do outside before cold WX sets in and I already have a couple projects underway.

  I don't think there is any way you are getting the 5m hose into a Sys -III even with nothing else in the Sys.  [sad]

Well, you are correct I suspect. I thought I had a 5m hose but when I went out to the shop this morning and looked it's a 3.5M hose and came in the Systainer in the photo. Forgot I had that as I don't keep the hose in there usually. I was able to get my ETS125 and the RTS400 in there but not much room for anything else, maybe a few sheets of paper.

So I think I will look at modifying the Systainer the hose came in for the hose, ETS 125, and RTS400 and just have to stow all my sandpaper in a SYS-I or II. IF I need another sander I will use the Systainer it came in.

You might want to take a look at the SYS-3 COMBI systainer, same height inside as a SYS-3 (so hose and sanders would fit as in the picture) and the drawer gives a nice place for the sandpaper.

Good idea but I am trying to make use of the Systainers I have. Still worth considering though, thanks Gregor.
