A few threads contributed to this thought ... the unevenness of floors, walls, complexities of sanding and finishing, etc.
How cool would it be to stick a little robot with a big bucket of "stuff" next to the wall, pick a profile design and hit GO ??
Not fine woodworking? Imagine the stuff was a couple of different colors that could even simulate a grain (v2 at least!)
No, still not fine woodworking, but things such as this could go mainstream when the cost of some of this stuff drops below the cost of a real person and real materials.
You could probably think of a few tech potentials like this that could easily creep into the mainstream some day - maybe high accuracy robotic painting ?
At least we're still a long way from planting a seed in the ground containing house DNA [smile]
