Nice easy question and help advise needed. I'm still in they process of permanently mounting my new Kapex on a cutting bench top. Is it better to just bolt it to the bench and pull it down on its rubber feet or drill four forsner 20mm holes partially into top and sink it in till it rests on the tabs?

thx

The Festool way, used with the MFT/3-Kapex, is to let the rubber feet locate it in 20mm holes and bolt it securely to the MDF top resting on the casting.

I thought the kapex was designed to be the same height as a sys 1. In fact I use sys 1's to support long pieces all the time. Sinking the feet would throw that off.

I don't have an opinion concerning the mounting method (I just bolted it down, compressing the feet), but I do offer a word of caution. IF you build or position in-feed and out-feed tables on either side of the Kapex, make sure to extend the wings on the fence that allow for compound miter cuts so as to make sure that you can tilt the blade appropriately. I have a Biesemyer in-feed and out-feed table on a cutting bench, and just recently discovered that I positioned the tables too close to the Kapex to allow for full tilting. Major bummer!

Their is no need to compress the feet on the KAPEX, it won't go anywhere  ;D

Just lghtly tighten it down without compressing the feet.

I would make holes to allow for the rubber feet!

If you just slightly tighten you can tighten one slightly more than the other and your base will be out of level with your in/out feed table. I have done this before!  I made a temporary bench for my kapex before I had the Ug stand.

I left my bench setup and packed up my kapex every day.  I did what Dan Clermont said just slightly tighten the bolts up.  I then placed my level across just to check and found the kapex was running up I simply tightened one side a little more untill it was inline again this is just hassle you just dont need  and by simply drilling holes to allow for the feet to drop into will avoid this problem which is what I did later one.

SO      If you just drill four holes where the feet go the kapex will sit on the metal lugs around the base and so guarantees its sits at the same height every time you place it on your home made bench no need to check it.

Also the rubber feet can wear out over time if you use it on jobs which will affect the height if you slightly tighten them.

Thx guys for info. Anyone covered their workbench top in Micro dot vibrant green formica? Thought it might look good with my kapex on Top!
