Must have accessories for OF1400?

It depends how you plan to use it but I think most routers should include an Edge Guide.

The most uniquely useful part about certain Festool routers, including the OF 1400, is the Guide Rail Stop.

There are some other accessories, some of which are more controversial on the FOG but those two are hard to beat.

Tom

EDIT: Of course, you'll want at least two Guide Rail Limit Stops for the guide rail. A lot of people already have them from other things...

Get the Guide rail Stop. It seems to be not included in the OF1400 EBQ Plus for some reason.. (or no reason)

And make yourself something like Festool #494681, but then for the 1400. The foot is silly. I still don't understand why Festool doesn't come up with a comparable product for the OF1400 (and OF1010).

Couldn't have said it any better.  [thumbs up]

Richard,

You're getting too far ahead.  One has to first get everything all set up ready to go to work on the wood, about to turn it on when... [doh]  Alright, so that's a stretch.  Not like forgetting to plug in the power cord.

Thanks

The best and most useful accessory for the OF1400 is a CT dust collector, of course.

What'd I win?    [wink]

The guide stop and a spiral bit.  If you want a perfect, smooth edge on your rough lumber (and don't have a longbed jointer with helical head) you can rough cut with the TS and then shave 1/16" with the router with no tearout.  It saves HOURS of sanding and swearing getting your edge straight and smooth from the get go.

hi im new ish around here. i dont no if this is inapropriate or not but whats this quote about.

Earlier this week, I took pics about my two favorite accessories for the OF-1400 for my blog.  Then this thread comes up so I wrote it up.

My two favorite but lesser known accessories are the edging plate and angle unit.  Combined, they let you run the router horizontally.  I used this all the time before the MFK-700.  It seems I still use it all the time since the MFK-700 since the MFK-700 can only do up to 5/8" banding when used horizontally.

If you want to see them in action when I made a stunning plywood cabinet for a closet... (!?!?), look hereh.  Lots of pictures if you're tired of reading. :)
