My 1st ever chair build

I learned a ton building this guy and can’t wait to build another chair after completing this one!

Huge thanks to everyone in the how-to forum for answering a bunch of my questions along the way! Biggest challenge was developing a good technique to cut the domino mortises needed to attach the seat to the chair legs.

The design reminds me of a steel chair I saw some time ago, possibly a Scandinavian design, but I much prefer the black walnut aesthetics and warmth. Cracking first chair  [thumbs up] and thanks for sharing it with us.

Outstanding, especially for a first chair!

The craftsmanship is spot on.  I especially like the way you mitered longer boards for the side leg assemblies - beautiful continuity of the figure in the wood.

I am a bit concerned though, that the pieces sticking out from the front of the seat assembly may prove to be uncomfortable.  Hope I'm wrong.

Nice job. I like the way the seat is cradled and gives a floating like feel. I own this Jerry Johnson sling chair below. It is a fun design. Yours has good implied movement etc.

Thanks for all the kind words guys! I've been traveling a lot the past month and just got back into the shop (garage) yesterday. I got the start of a French cleat wall hung up yesterday to try to organize my tiny shop so I can make more stuff like this more easily....the time away made me realize just how much time I waste with a disorganized garage.

[member=44099]Cheese[/member] the angle it splays back at makes it really comfortable without cushions and being my 1st chair I just really dig looking at it as is. Planning a couch type build in a similar style with cushions....going to probably contract out the cushions as I don't think my 9 year old daughters sewing machine is up to that task.

[member=21249]RKA[/member] no problem! finding a way to accurately mark out the mortise locations on both legs and the seat was by far the most challenging part of this build...now that I've figured out a good way to do it, I think it could lead to some really unique/fun builds in the future!

I need to build an outfeed table for my table saw and want to use a MFT-like top....been really considering your Parf guide, great work with that design!

Not a simple design by any means but I can see how a Domino would make that a very doable project. Bookmarking it in the hopes I can someday return and take a whack at one myself.
