My FOURTH Festool Track Saw

Ok, let me explain. I bought my first track saw a few years back, the TS55 EQ. It was my gateway drug into the Neverland of Green (and gray and dark blue, almost black). I loved it from the first cut and never thought of replacing it until the features of the REQ made me rethink that. I wanted the flat housing and...(okay fine I'll admit it- it was pretty ok, there!) So I sold my EQ, ran over to Tooltown and picked up an REQ the same day. Unfortunately, I won't even mention it, but I'll just say dark times came upon us and there was a lot of doubt in whether I had made a good decision; after all, there was nothing wrong with the EQ.  So rather than take a refund I opted for the 75 exchange. I was happy with this beast especially when I had to cut through a solid 1.5 maple top. Most of the time I use it for cutting plywood and bottom line, it's big. So I looked around for a 55EQ again; for some panel cutting and field work.

I didn't feel like buying a used tool. I always have a feeling that the previous owner hasn't taken care of it as I would. Call it used-toolaphobia. Anyway, despite some traffic after work today I swung by Tooltown to pick up some stuff I had ordered and decided to just take a peek in their Festool Loft. (I had some money left from the sale of my assembly table and miter station). And there it was. I looked away and then glanced back. I said to myself, "let me just take a peek inside the systainer." The smell hit me. (Oh, you all know that smell). Suddenly, I was brought back to the enjoyable moment of my first plywood sheet break down with a track saw like the scene in Ratatouille when the critic is returned to childhood. Now here I am with the  fourth track saw that has entered my tiny shop.

On other forums they would call you crazy ... but here, we call you brother [wink]

Now I know why I have so many Festools and Systainers...  Perhaps I should put on a respirator next time I visit my Festool dealer!!!!

Now I do not know how old you are but your last few sentences confirm an emotional response to purchasing tools that, according to some research I read in the Melbourne Age newspaper last year, is for men of a certain age of similar enjoyment value to that felt by younger men engaged in another popular activity . . . .!!!  [embarassed] [big grin]

Some in the FOG also describe this emotion as 'drinking the Green Cool Aide'.   [eek]

Ha ha I can relate to that reference.
[big grin]

I keep saying....it's not an addiction.....guess I'm in denial too.
Love the image you gave me
Thanks!
Hmmmm that reminds me....Hartville Tool opens in a few hours...

It took me awhile to finish reading your incredible tale.  My eyes kept filling with tears of joy ...

I eagerly await future chapters -- maybe one on Dominos?

Like your story I almost did the same thing when I saw the new 55 come out. I could really use those new features and and my old EQ had a nice run and could be sold to someone who didn't need a new one. But unfortunately I haven't had the funds yet. Nothing like the smell of a shinny new tool. ( shinny green tool that is )

I use to have a bunch of paintball guns. I even started building them. If you think Festool is expensive, try spending $1800 on recreational paint gun.

I believe this sickness needs a name.  And I think just about every male walking the planet has it in one form or another.  I have never met a gun I couldn't learn to love.  Same goes for ATV's and Diesel trucks.  Although I have evolved my choices after gaining considerable experience in the fine art of convincing my spouse that the Earth would stop turning and we all would fly into space if I didn't have it.   Of course women have it too.  Like the $13,000 embroidery machine, or the $30,000 quilting machine, or the two $10,000 sewing machines that do the same thing as the new embroidery machine, only the new one has a larger stitch window.... and lets not forget the 4 and 5 thread Sergers too.  OBTW, did I tell you that one of the $10,000 machines is still in the original box, un-opened?   And please don't even get me started on the veritable cloth store I have in the basement.   Yeah, two can play that game....  So when I want to purchase a new tool, well, I figure she is still way ahead of the game on me... so I deserve it.

So, does she sew your clothes?  [big grin]

My wife loves sewing but she is nowhere near that type of machinery. I hope she never reads your post
