I was finishing up my last cut of the day, a window stool return. And the saw began making a really harsh sound, Along with a burning odor. This saw has seen very little use, and I actually just got it back from warranty work in May. With that situation the saw head wouldn't snap back after making a cut.
I guess I'll be sending it back out again. Hopefully there will be no cost to me here. As I said the saw gets treated very well and not often.
Regardless, after seeing some of the other posts, it seems there is a problem with the motor. They hopefully will step up and do what'd necessary to correct the issue.
Thanks for your feedback.

This is disturbing indeed.

I am less concerned with the actual 'problem' than I am the fact that Festool hasn't stepped up with an identification and solution. The Kapex may be a great value (I happen to think so) but it's STILL a very expensive Mitre saw and this does NOT promote confidence!

Heck, I haven't even gotten to unpack mine yet, and now I'm honestly a little nervous to do so. I am CERTAINLY saving my boxes 'til this is resolved!!!

I really, really, really, really want the Kapex!!!!  However, the reported failures (although probably a small percentage of units in use) have made me hit the pause button on acquiring one.  I won't purchase one until this issue is sorted.

I was really fed up with my old DeWalt DW705, I haven't cut that much over the years with it, and had the Forrest fine tooth blade attached.  Was strolling through Sears several days ago, saw a "Craftsman" 96 tooth blade (yeah, I know - Craftsman) and bought it on a whim, although a $98 whim.  Got home, replaced the blade, added the laser disk light I've had for many, many months, and tried it out.  Man oh man, what a NICE cut.  Cut some 8/4 walnut 6" across, no problem!  Smooth, smooth, smooth!  Although I thought the Forrest blade was still sharp, drove the point home of how mindful you need to be about the sharpness of any blade.  With me, I used the saw so irregularly over the past 12 months, I didn't notice the degradation of the blade, only my dissatisfaction of how hard I had to press the saw down to make a cut.  So, for $98 I feel as if I have a new miter saw, albeit not the Kapex that I want.......

The trick is Gentlemen  [wink]

You actually need to buy two.
