attached are pictures of 2 bookcase units I just finished today.  Several things I did different since going to the festool cabinet class.

1: I routed a grove about 3/4" in on the backs of the upper bookcase units with my mfk 700 router and a 1/4" bit to accept the back.  before I would just screw or nail to the back of the cabinet.  I like this way much better and will do it on all cab in the future.

2:  I used the domonio to assemble the face frame pieces and also to the cabinet itself.  this works very well and really adds strength to the cabinets.

nope, they are primed with zinsser 123 water, then brushed and rolled with sherwin williams super paint semi gloss, (great paint for built ins)

thanks !

Wow.  You FINISHED that since the class.  I don't think I could have STARTED that since a class.

Nice work and details.

If it had been my project, I would have done 95% of it in a few days.  But it would be at least a year before the last 5% got worked on.  Just ask my wife  [big grin]

Sounds like my house except, I can suffice at about 60% completion for years.
No wonder my wife is never happy, that and the lack of a kitchen for the last year.

I once went on the tear out my kitchen diet - all in how you position the delays!

You kind of covered up that return air grille a little bit.

there is a 12" space between it and the cab. which is enough and also to open door and replace filter.

Looks great Kreg!  Was there an existing mantle before you started?  Looks like that one is brand new and part of your project.  Thats a great addition to the living room.  Lots of homes around here have that same setup, small fireplace in the middle of a blank wall.

there was a small mantel already their and after the cab were installed, it just looked to small, so I added a larger top and added some edge trim to match the edge of the bottom cabinet and then added the upper piece 1x8 with custom fluting and the crown was already their, just pulled it off and replaced with new on top of the 1x8 so it made it look like it was always their.

thank you.
