Haven't seen it 'live' yet, but I just bought myself a Festo orbital sander  [tongue]

As you might know, it was Festo(ol) who invented the worlds first orbital sander back in 1951. Festo was at that time a local manufacturer in Esslingen, a suburb of the Stuttgart industrial center. Craftsmen visited the company's shop in person to pay a deposit for a place on the waiting list and could return four to six weeks later to purchase a sander.

The RTK sander has the logotype which were later replaced in 1962 and should be from the late fifties. It is not the first version which came out in 1951 because that had a slightly different base. It is supposed to be in excellent condition but at 15$ the risk isn't overwhelming :)

Looking forward to pick it up and give it a run.

For the historically interested, you can here see the very first orbital sander in the world:

I have been looking for some of the Festo industrial machines for shutter and sash work.

Love the old metal housed tools.

Found the sander on a local craig-list. Our main national craig-list gives you the possibility to have keyword 'agents' which shoots you a mail when a listing contains the word. Like a lot of other people I of course
have one agent with 'festool' but it is very few that at all knows about the FESTO name. I have a FESTO RS3 sander and a OF900 router from 1997 which both performs just as well as the day I bought them, so I'm pretty confident about the quality and durability of our loved greens.
