Need replacement part from Parf Guide Mk II system

I bought the Parf Guide system and have used it so far to create one workbench top. I love the system. Unfortunately, my drill fell and the 3mm bit broke. I was able to remove the remainder of the bit from the holder (which works with the drill guide), but the holder doesn’t seem to accept a generic 3mm bit, which will I can’t insert more than about 10mm into the holder. Unfortunately, while I see some of the Parf Guide parts offered separately, I haven’t found this bit or even the bit and holder combo offered separately. So how can I replace this simple part?

Thanks. I sent Axminster a similar message just before posting here. I thought a fellow FOG member might have had a similar issue and found a solution.

There appears to be some confusion on the Axminster site about the length of the 3mm drill.  The Axminster representative wrote the replacement drill is 61mm long and can be ordered using part number 610242.  However, the Axminster website shows this is a drill is 72mm long.  The customer replies state the replacement length is between 72mm and 79mm.

You could also try finding a replacement from McMaster-Carr.  Here is the page for the 3mm drills.

I have that system. My original 3mm bit is 72mm long.
I can get any on my other 3mm bits to fit in the guide hole. I suspect you have a burr or similar down the guide hole?

Thanks for the info about Axminster bits. My guess is that the problem is inside the guide hole. If the problem is some obstruction there, any advice on how to get it out? That possibility occurred to me before I posted originally—to the point that I tried using a rare-earth magnet to draw anything out, but to no avail. There’s probably something obvious that I’m just missing.

I suspect you have a fragment of the original drill bit wedged in the guide hole. You wont be able to drill it out since any new drill bit will just bite into it and snap. If you can find a piece of 3mm bar, then repeated inserting and tapping (hammering?!) from both sides might work it loose? Perhaps the blunt end of the piece of old drill bit is long enough?

You're going to mess up the 3mm bore in the middle of the guide bush, but as long as the top and bottom of the hole are undisturbed it should still perform OK.

Axminster Customer Service will sort this out for you with no problem whatsoever.

If you PM me your real name and the email address you used when you bought the system I will make sure that help is forthcoming. Did you buy this from Axminster direct or through another dealer?

Peter

Just to update, it turned out that the problem was with the new bit (bought locally) I was trying to use. Although it was a simple 3mm bit that should have worked, there was a defect on the shank that made it ever so slightly too large for the collet of the bit holder. (I know because I later tried another 3mm bit from the same manufacturer and it fit.) Thanks to Peter Parfitt and Axminster customer service for their help in sorting out how to buy the same replacement bit that is used in the Parf Guide System.

So any info or confirmation on the length of the 3mm bit?

I have a similar issue. Bought the Parf Mark 2 guide and on my very first use the tiny little screw that is in the depth stop collet for 200mm bit stripped out. Was forced to drill the screw out in order to remove the collet.
