New Backsplash - What a Pain! - Quarter-turn Valves...

Thanks, Kreg!

I did a little plumbing today that I didn't mind, I changed out an old hose bib. I'm really not fond of under sink or waste plumbing though.

Quarter turns (valves/stops) are the best!!! Also stay away from valves (stops) with a plastic knob or I even avoid the footballs.  I like the lobed knobs on the valves as well!!!!! Brass Craft from HD is unfortunately where I go.  I can't tell you how many stops I've replaced over the years.  I have and had rentals and at one point lived at 6 different addresses in 8 years and from all of these situations plumbing is the most common maintenance issues I've had to deal with.
No kidding! I turned off one of my valves only to have the plastic stem break off in my hand, followed by a quick run to the main house shut-off. Luckily this was a simple replacement.  Turns out one store only had the plastic valved replacements, I went else where to get one with a brass shaft as I didn't want to run into the same problem again xx years later.

looks nice now its done, looks like alot of faff with all the easy sand etc. Bit of hardwall or bonding and skim would have been used over here and no messing bout sanding

Nice.

It was this same project in my house that introduced me to Festool.  We had installed new countertops and my wife wanted mosaic tiles on the backsplash.  The wall was so out of plane that it required lots of shimming to get the wall back in plane.  It took forever.  I thought it would have been so much easier if I could cut shims from 2x4's, but I couldn't get the angle right.  After that experience, and a chance encounter with a Family Handyman article on the Dewalt rail saw, I eventually came across Festool via the Amazon reviews on the Dewalt saw.
