I'm more curious how the new RG 130 ECI-Plus compares to the old RG 130 E, honestly.

Since we've never had this tool in the U.S., I can't offer any feedback or experiences here. But, maybe one of our friends across the pond can help out.

I purchased the previous version from the recon site last year. I absolutely love it. The updated version has a brushless motor and also has Bluetooth built in to trigger the vacuum.

Last time I was using mine, I tripped the 20 Amp circuit breaker in the house I was working on when I ran the grinder power through the CT36-AC. It didn’t happen every time, but when I was really letting the tool do some hard work at grinding some old concrete, it tripped the breaker. Eventually I plugged the CT and the Renofix into separate circuits and continued with the project. I was using a remote on the hose to trigger the vacuum from that point on.

Had I known about the update to the tool, I definitely would have waited and opted for the new unit.

Thank you for this perspective.

I wonder if the addition of the brushless motor will render the bluetooth redundant.  I definitely appreciate that they took the time to add it in to a corded tool specifically for the purpose of eliminating the need to have the tool plugged in through the CT.  I wonder if that will be a new trend moving forward or just for the higher-draw tools.

I was tempted on multiple occasions to purchase the Renofix on Festool Recon. The only thing that held me back was that it came with the diamond disc used for coatings/paint stripping and that was of no use to me. And I believe the price for the older Renofix on Festool Recon was $699? Really glad I didn't pull the pin. [smile]

Cheese, I can tell you firsthand that the included disk for “coatings/paint stripping” did an amazing job of grinding old concrete under an exterior door sill on a very old house.  [smile]  I only did this because I never plan to use this for stripping paint and figured I would wear out the disk that it came with before buying the “correct” one.

To clarify my comment above, about wishing I had waited. That had nothing to do with the performance of the previous version of Renofix. The dust extraction is really very very good for what it is intended for. I’m confused why we don’t see more tile fitters using them over here. Oh wait, it’s because none of them seem to care about breathing or creating silica dust.  [doh]

1. That's good to know because those small diamond protrusions look like they'd be gone in an instant.  [smile]  I'm just too used to the traditional cement diamond cup grinding wheel.

2. I'm glad I waited because the brushless motor is perfect especially for this application. I also noticed the prices of the Festool diamond products have dropped significantly. The same wheels they offer now were $100-$125 more expensive about 6 months ago.

I just looked again and it appears that the new Renofix doesn't come with any wheels at all, even the paint wheel, which explains why its retail price is similar to the previous model on Recon.  [unsure]

I had not picked up on that before, but to be honest, this is a very smart move. I don’t imagine that US customers are looking at this for paint removal as the main motivation for considering this tool.
