Since I'm poor (but have expensive taste spelled F-E-S-T-O-O-L), I just attached a piece of 3/4" EMT (elec conduit) to my vac handle and then bent a piece of 1/2" EMT and put it inside the 3/4".  A couple pieces of velcro strap later(holds hose and cord to 1/2" EMT), and I've got my $20 vac boom arm, and it rotates (the 1/2" arm inside the 3/4" upright) to give me more freedom and reach with the tools.

There are, of course, many other ways to skin this cat, and this may not be any big contribution, but I'm trying :P

Haha

I do have to admit buying and owning Festools does make me feel very guilty and actually but bad about myself. Being all this stuff can be done by hand it does seem exuberant and wasteful in many ways..

That's great to hear - I made the same sorta thing but used 1" CPVC (gray elec. plastic sched 40 pipe) and was troubled with the flex and bounce/bowing of the arm but otherwise that works nicely - I need to try the EMT.
