Hello!

I got my new kapex yesterday and everything looks fine, the only thing is when i try to bevel right or left (is bevel the right word?) it has a grinding sound like the brake is halfway on. It bevels both ways all the way to 47 degrees but it is a bit stiff. After throwing it back and forth a couple of times is feels a bit smoother but it is still grinding metal agains metal i guess. Is this common with new saws or do I have a problem with mine?

are you following these steps?  If so, the grinding does not sound normal.

No, this is not normal, it should go smooth with no sound.

Agreed! This is not normal! Send it back for replacement or get your money back. For $1400 it should be flawless out of the box, just saying.

I actually think he is talking about miter not bevel.  If that is the case then you need to make sure you lift the miter lock lever and press the Miter stop release lever with your thumb to change the miter setting.  I had this same issue when I got my saw because I did not read first.

I did that with the miter! The first couple of times it worked fine, then a horrible grinding noise!! Drrrr - I had not moved the release correctly. OOPS!

I had the same grinding with the bevel adjustment on my Kapex.  After a conversation with the great folks at Festool CS, it was decided to send the saw back to check.  They replaced some parts and re-adjusted the saw.  The saw works perfectly.  Call Festool CS, they will take care of you.

No not miter, it's when i bevel, and I do follow those steps in the picture. Has used other kapexes before mine and have never heard that noise before. It's slightly less now but it's not smooth. Mitering works smoothly! Maybe I should return it...

If your within your 30 day period then by all means send it back for repair or get your money back. It's hard to imagine that a miter saw would ever cost $1400 but since you did pay that much it should be flawless.
Good luck

Yeah I got it this monday so it's only a couple of days old. I returned it today so they can fix the bevel problem and one of the lasers, it was off by 1-2mm. Expected it to be spot on.
