I thought I'd take a quick moment to introduce myself as a new member of the Festool Owners Group. My name is Erik - I live in the dark, cold armpit of the midwest (Dayton, Ohio). The perfect climate for making sawdust as there isn't much else to do around here! I guess you could classify me as a wanna be pro woodworker. I have a normal 9-5 gig but do some moonlighting work as a woodworker/handyman (mainly to fund my addiction to high end tools). You can take a look at some of my work at my website which my wife so generously maintains on my behalf www.tofstadwoodworking.weebly.com  I actually haven't taken the Green tool pluge yet but I will be acquiring a TS55 & vac package real soon - the funds are there for it I just haven't decided what all I want. Actually my next post after this intro will be to ask for suggestions from current users about what I should get. Well, hope to speak with many of you soon. From what I have seen so far there are plenty of knowledgeable people on this board. Thanks!

Welcome to the FOG Erik. Some nice work on your webpage.

Welcome.

The TS and CT vac is a great first purchase. Bear in mind that it comes with a 55" rail but you can pay the difference to get a longer rail if that would be more useful to you. Your dealer can explain it to you more fully.

Richard.

Erik    Welcome to FOG,you are going to meet some great people with alot of advise to help you along.
The TS and CT are the way to go but know once you got bitten there will be more Green Coolaid to come.

Welcome from Springfield Ohio.

Nice work!  You'll find a lot of help and advice here.

Welcome. I dated a woman in Dayton and use to drive there every other weekend. Not a bad place at all and I wouldn't call it an armpit, thats Jersey [poke] lol

Thank you all for the warm welcome and compliments on my work. I look forward to interacting with you all - getting some guidance and offering it when I can.

tvgordon - nice to know another buckeye is lurking here as well, I recently did a custom straightedge storage box for a machine shop over in Springfield.

JLB- that is one heck of a commute to visit a woman, must have been a nice girl. I'd love to live in your town - sailing is my other hobby.

Erik, welcome to the forum. Glad to have you join the forum and we look forward to your participation. If I can be of any service, please feel free to get in touch with me.

Welcome Erik.

I have to ask ....

I was looking through your gallery and saw a long padded box that looked like a coffin for a snake that had swallowed 5 tennis balls ...

What was that?

Kev

(probably showing my ignorance)

Hi Erik,

Welcome to the FOG !  [smile]

Looking forward to your question on what to get.

BTW, you mentioned an addiction to high end tools, you do realise this place is pretty much the opposite of a rehab center , right ?  [smile]

Kev - that "coffin" looking thingy on my website was a custom storage box for an 8' precision straight edge (that costs like $1900!!!). A friend of mine is a sales rep for the company who sells the straight edges and a client of his wanted a nice box to store it in. I guess the standard storage container is a piece of 3"PVC pipe. He wanted something prettier  [big grin]

Seth - I'm certain I will not find the cure to what ails me here but at least i'll be in the company of others who can empathise with my addiction ;D
