New MFT/3 Arrived!!

My new MFT/3 arrived on Monday and I already need a second one [eek]
I am building cabinets for my reloading bench (the other hobby) and the MTF is not long enough to support the cabinet for assembly. It is 58" long or 147cm for all others in the world. Luckily I work in engineering and use both units of measure. SOOOO it looks like I need a second one!
Anyone build a throw down extention for their MFT?

This is one really slippery green slope that I have fallen down....now I want a track saw, but who doesn't [big grin]

I am hoping in 2014 they release multiple sizes of MFTs. After taking the class there really is no point to 1 MFT if you have to break down sheet good.
 
You guys have more disposable cash than I if you'd buy a 2nd or 3rd mft simply for support.  Pretty darn $$$ for simple work support.

I have an mft3 and dont use it much unless I'm doing cabinetry or closets or shelves.  In a basement remodel now and have no intention of bringing it down here for a general worksurface.

You guys promoting 2-3 of them might have dipped into the green well a bit too deep.

Your rail is the first one that I have seen where the anodized finish is starting to wear -- this must have seen tons of use!!

I have a dual MFT/3 setup that I really like. I built an extension for my heavy vise that sits flush with the MFT top and sides and has the same hole pattern. I think the Festool leg braces on every leg are necessary for any degree of stability. The legs for the vise extension make the table stiff enough for cross sawing and planing.

I do use a 2' by 2' sacrificial top for the MFT for drilling and gluing. It's just high density particle board with oak edging but it prevents damaging the MFT top.

Only one of the MFT/3 units has all the accessories. The other is just the table & legs.

I find the protractor that came with the accessory kit is, for me, just a dust collector. I use Qwas dogs to set up angle cuts.

The Festool TS55 works wonderfully well with the MFT/3 setup.

I own 2 wish I owned 3. I think 3 is the magic number

I use the back of my 1900 rail as a straight edge for cutting veneers. Sometimes a little of the aluminium gets sliced off too... [embarassed]

I use mine for cutting Sheetrock flat.  It doesn't slide and my fingers are safer.  [scared]

That is a good idea...I never thought of that...I always pull out the big T-square...hmmm, I might give it a try on my next project.

HA!!!  I must have fallen into the well, then.  [scared]  I have AND USE two MFT/3s.  Most times they're connected together, but both are used regularly.  If I had the room, there would be two more.

I fell in right behind you...aside from my CT, my MFTs are the second most used Festools I own.  I have two full size and one Kapex MFT and I agree, would like more.  I have never mounted mine together, but they are an extremely useful tool for me and I have a full sized 7 foot 3 1/2 inch thick maple workbench with vises.  I still find that I use the MFT more.  Being able to configure it for different tasks, reposition the tables or have one set up for machine use and another for assembly or gluing or finishing is great.  I bought both of mine used and saved some money that way, but I still find a lot of value in them and think that they are worth the price of admission.  Of course everyone's mileage varies and lots of ways to do things.

Oh I didnt count my kapex MFT. If thats the case the  already have 3, 2 MFT3's and a kapex MFT.

I would like to have 3 MFT3s, That would be a awesome set up.
 
I really wish I had the space for multiples, but I really don't. I am working on some cabinets and decided to change design that I originally came up with and the MFT helped me change how it will be assembled and for the better. Since I don't have a lot assembly area, the MFT is making this easier for me.
As said above, I will be building a rolling cart/bench that the MFT will sit in for ease of mobility.

Here’s how I ‘solved’ my need for multiple MFTs in my cramped space (excuse the mess, my basement shop is still in the reno phase). The tops are 90 cm wide (35 and a bit inches) by 35 cm  deep. The dog holes are based on the MFT grid pattern.

That's what I am using now myself. I need to refine it to be more user friendly, but I am in the middle of a project and don't want to stop to make it better. I know have a large piece of plywood on top of my MFT to support the cabinet I am working on now and the shop mate table to hold clamps, calculator and other fine woodworking goodies.

Hi guys!

I'm new here in the forum but I've been a Festool owner for about 5 years now. It's all gotten a bit out of hand here with the black and green toys that go 'vroooom!'

I just wanted to add that I'm quite impressed with the solutions offered here for the need of more support beyond 1 MFT. I've often wondered why it wouldn't be an idea to have a second table, but after having seen the home-made extensions here, I really don't need anything more than that.

I would make some slight adjustments to the designs I've seen here that would better accommodate an uneven floor situation (an adjustable leg on the extension for example). 

Just wanted to express my appreciation for the tips offered here.
