New MIDI / Cyclone

Does anyone have the new MIDI and Festool Cyclone?

It doesn't say on the website they are compatible, so I am starting to think this could be the root cause of my constant beeping issue.

It should beep when the airflow drops, but it always going off.

I have been through the whole process of elimination, and although it has been hit and miss,  but it's mostly when the Cylone is connected.

It is used and stored on a gradient but doubt it can be this. 

I have had it connected direct to the vac all morning using the sander, track saw and domino and its been fine, so leading me to believe it is the Cyclone.

Thoughts?

Is your MIDI L-class or M-class?

Class M, the L doesn't have the alarm I don't think.

1. Cyclone hose is 32mm*
2. Your RFID tag on the hose connected to the cyclone tells the M-class nothing.  You're running off manual setting, which probably at this point is at the very top of the bars - denoting a max 50mm.  Use the buttons to place it down.

* Whatever most restrictive hose you have in the series should be entered.  i.e. 27mm should be dropped down to 27.  Anything above 32mm is 32.

Thanks for the reply, on a new MIDI it's auto set, so unless there is a malfunction there? or it drops power because of the Cyclone at times?

I might try emptying it sooner, it's less than a quarter filled normally.

No,

Before the vacuum engine powers on, the display indicates the hose size.  Only once it runs, does it indicate suction power.

One is suppose to set the size of the hose before you run it.  Manual in this case meant that the RFID tag isn't in play and that you'll need to manually move the setting to the desired indicator size.

Woodferret is probably right on the money. But if he isn't - the fill state of your bag is nothing to do with this. The MIDI's beeping because it's telling you that it's not receiving enough airflow - which is often caused by a full bag or a clogged filter. In your case, neither of the above applies, so the cause can be narrowed down to either;

a) The CT-VA-20 cyclone itself, or;
b) The hose connected to it.

It's pretty well-known that the CT-VA reduces airflow - but under normal real-world circumstances, this airflow drop is marginal and doesn't affect the overall performance of the extraction system. I own one, and I'm super-happy with what it does for me. But mine's used with a CTL26 - a bigger machine with no alarm. So my troubleshooting advice would initially be;

1 Check your hose thoroughly. It's amazing how quickly a pile of stray fibres, shreds or chips can block it, given its relatively narrow bore. I use a long bamboo plant stem support stick which I push down the hose (like a drain rod) to clear out any clogs.
2 Take your cyclone apart and check all the tubes - and especially check the base of the rotary drum where the airflow enters, and where buildups can occur.
3 Do as Woodferret suggests.
4 Post back when you're done with the above, and if the problem isn't fixed, I'll move you onto stage 2.

Please also tell me if your hose is a new-gen one with the rotating airflow-reducing sleeve, thanks.

So just to double check my understanding.

When you switch on the vac, the bars show the hose size setting? As there is no other display on the vac.

When i switch it on, it always shows the green bar in the middle, but I can't move them up and down with the arrows.

I can only move them up and down when I do the manual start, or use one of my tools.

Hi kevin,

I has stripped it down again and emptied out the Cyclone and there seems to be no beeping, I won't hold my breath though as it usually comes on.

The cyclone was about 1/4 full, otherwise didn't find any blockages etc.

Will report back a bit later.

Does your 32mm hose from extractor to CT-VA have the RFID tag?  If they've stuck one on there, then there's nothing else other than possibly opening up the bypass valve at the end of the 27mm.  That's just weird and WTF.

So today I tried to move the bars up and down before the machine started vacuuming and it worked!

It's set to the middle, is this correct?

so mine is similar to the second picture, and where you have circled has a Festool sticker on it, let me know if a picture will help.

Yay.  Middle is 32mm IIRC.  That's technically right, but you're passing it through a lot of constriction down to the 27.  I'd notch it down to 27 if you don't ever want to have false positive beeps.
