New Polishing system - colour coded and Water based.

Hi
A colour coded system for simplicity and the three MPA polishes are water based but also scented  [smile]

I saw these on the homepage of the UK site this week, Phil. Popped open the PDF. Gotta say, what a freakin' smart color system. Love it. Well done, Festool.

I've got more polishing pads and polishing agent than I'll ever need .. The range of about 7 different agents and pads from various suppliers in multiple colours is just plain confusing and in reality quite unnecessary.

The simplicity of this new Festool setup and the fact that you can have flat or waffle face across the spectrum of all of the polishers is awesome.

Having all three RO's supported uniformly is a good excuse to add a 125 to the 90 and 150 too [big grin] for those that aren't aware, the RO's are awesome polishers - the RO motion results in far less swirl and is more gentle than a rotary polisher.

Can't wait for this to come to Oz .. I'll be standing in line for it.

.......and as they are water based - scented as well such as Sandlewood  [thumbs up]...so no more noxious smells !!!

Will unscented be an option? Anything that carries a smell usually causes fisheyes in waterborne coatings if you so much as open the container in the same room.

This is what is really frustrates me with festool at times, how can there be any road blocks to releasing this globally.  Like the changes to the sanders, and this, I will also add, that Triton has there work center in the US, which features different modules, but no plans to bring the full line of CMS modules over here.

.......unscented not an option. Festool would never release a product for this market that cause fisheye.

....I am sure this will at some point cross the pond the same as the sanders

Forget the pond .. Concentrate on the convict route [big grin]

.....cross the pond and the convict route - gracious apologies Kev  [wink]

After Brexit I may have to also add the Channel as well at some point......

I'm sure they wouldn't do it intentionally, but I'm also sure they don't test every coating on the market in every country. The VOC regulations being what they are here in this state, most of the coatings I can here get are ridiculously sensitive and if there's so much as a molecule of scented fabric softener on the cloth I'm using to wipe the sanding dust off of the surface in between coats, I'm sanding back to bare wood and starting over.

Sorry to say it guys, but the pad color coding to indicate aggressiveness/density is hardly revolutionary. Fortunately Festool chose to use the same color codes as the rest of the pad manufacturers in the automotive detailing sector. The Lake Country pads I've used for the past 8 years or so with my Porter Cable RO polisher use the same color system. Check out autogeek for example.

It's good to see that Festool didn't invent some odd color scheme. I'm curious to see what they offer for pad cleaning, didn't see it on the site. Nice to see this stuff being available.

Glad that they're rationalizing the system.  Rotex is great as a polisher, but it took me some time and research to figure out best approaches and accessories in the absence of clear and obvious guidance.  Even my normally reliable brick and mortar dealer was somewhat hazy on the details -- so it's good that they will now set down some standards.

I use the Festool polishes, never an issue with fisheyes in any of my finishes. I use waterborne exclusively.

. My go-to pad cleaner is Griots Garage Microfiber and Pan cleaner. I buy it by the gallon .
I demo'd it to a Festool rep a few years ago when we got the Shinex here in the US.  He was amazed .

Where do sheepskin pads fit into the new polishing system? They are noticeably absent.

I'm about to embark upon my first automotive polishing with my RO90 and i wish I would have this available next week!  I would concur my local dealers know nothing about polishing and the limited guidance from Festool is confounding.

I'll get on bord for this one. I'm thinking the R0 125 would be the size for my usage..I've got the RO 90 for detail work..

Thanks for the info Phil!
