New product CT wings - Video

What is the long term effect on the extractor motor if this is used?  Seems like the motor could heat up quite a bit since the normal airflow is being restricted, thus shortening life?

I am sure that the motor will be up to it otherwise Festool would be facing all sorts of risks from CT Wings users. It is interesting that putting the CT Wings on the hose and using it produces a fairly normal sound from my CT26. However, if I block the hose with my hand then it really does strain. I am sure that there is sufficient allowance for air to get through when the wings are in use to keep the CT working within its comfort zone.

Actually when you put your hand over the hose you aren't straining the motor, it's the opposite. Blocking the air flow removes a significant amount of resistance allowing the motor to run with much less strain, that's why it runs so much faster that way.

Peter,
Great video.  Very useful as usual.  Thanks for taking the time to do the video and for sharing here on FOG.  When the CT Wings come to NA I'll get one.  Not sure how much I would use it but seems like it would be handy those times it's needed.

I think that you have it exactly - at the price it will be a must for the kit bag as you will never know when you might need it.

Looks like they are available after September 1 at least in Germany according to German Festool site.

Yes, Europe gets them on 9/1. Us... well, we'll see. My guess, 3-6 months.

I don't know what the official view might be but they are not especially heavy and could be mailed from Europe to NA very easily.

Peter

The official view is that we do not want dealers shipping outside of their own country. Of course, what customers do is up to them.

I guess I could say the European version are not compatible with 110v CTs.  [huh]

Then how would they work on UK jobsites?

No, available only from 01/09.

For those of us who are 'Metric Impaired' - AlexDSL is saying that they are available beginning 9/1/2014.

But, alas, NAINA...

I know that Festool will have concentrated on the metric market for the first production run but it will not take them long to develop an imperial version of the CT Wings.

We will have these in the US, just not sure when yet. My guess would be in the next 3-6 months.

When using with a laser level, there are marks on the sides of the CT Wings for alignment. So, you can get it right on your laser line. There's also a plumb line.

Hello Shane,

Sorry but I do not see how the marks on sides of the CT WINGS can help in the alignment of a level level.

For me, these marks (among 4) allow only to center the small eyelet which serves, actually, for the alignment of a plumb line (when the CT WINGS is maintained in the ceiling.).

On the photo below, we can see 2 of 4 marks.

You would align the mark on the side of the CT Wings with your laser line and turn the "fingers" to align with it as well.

Like this, basically...

Shane,

I might be missing something in this  basic "alignment", however, when I look at your first photo showing the red arrow pointing towards the line on the wing, and you saying line this up with your laser line, if you look closely at that photo you will see the wing "rest" and alignment mark are not at the same level.  Thus, if you line the line on the wing with you laser, the level used will actually be sitting above line mark by what appears to be 1/2-3/4".
