New product teaser on Facebook

Sometimes we just wanna have fun hypothesizing what could be in the box even if it doesn't make sense. Let us have some fun...   [tongue]

I mean, I’m 99% certain this is about a Planex that has been tweaked just enough that Festool can pretend it’s new but not enough for us to actually find it interesting when it’s announced. But it’s definitely about the contents of the box, not the box itself.

So it's not the new autonomous robotic self-propelled, self-guided sander then?
Pity, I was looking forward to that.

The Planex 225 already has a Systainer solution (photo below) - it doesn't need such a big one as the XXL either. I use an XXL to house all my jigs, including MFS700,400 & 200.

An inside source has let slip what's in the box. Pricing should be around the $400 / £450 mark and a release date of Q3.

It also explains the extractor in the photos to pick up the sharpenings  :)

I gotta have one of those FT pencil sharpeners. Are they on eKat and what is the part number? :-)

The second teaser has a metal bit showing that seems like it could be a Planex extension to me.

Can only be used with Festool's proprietary sized marking instruments made from the same wood as the Sipo Domino Tenons and graphite that impregnates the anti static fittings. There’s also an optional dust collection system available and a cordless Bluetooth rotating motor attachment.

Cool - Are the new marking instruments also battery operated?  And what about lead - Do we have a variety of colors and hardness?  If so, will there be variety packs or will we have to buy them in packs of 50?  What about inks?  An ink sharpener would be a huge technology advance.  Do all the leads use the same eraser, or are there specialty erasers for different leads?  And of course we all want to know if there is a Leadotec system for quickly changing from one lead to another - if so, I would expect it to flawlessly align with the rotating motor attachment so that the point is always precise and perfectly centered.  I'm also thinking that a track attachment would be useful for drawing straight lines, and perhaps a Shaper Origin accessory that allows you to use it as a large-format printer.

Woohoo!  I see a job opportunity designing stuff for Festool in my future!  (or not...)

I think the background of the photos is the key, un-sanded drywall mud. My money is on new Planex that combines the capabilities of the LHS and LHS-E into a single unit that doesn't need to be assembled to use with the reach of the LHS but the ease of the LHS-E. The machine and all attachments plus the hose being able to fit in the systainer XXL.

Just rumor around the brand. Whats inside is irrelevant. IMO.

As long as they (us) talk about it....

From the social media posts this morning, looks like it's a new Planex with LED ring light on the head. Still corded. Somewhat disappointing to be honest unless there are some other great new features.

Hmmm, looks like one of those things where it doesn't mean you should, just because you can.

First, when you put a light source this close to the material it will not improve your visibility because now the shadows are all distorted. When you look at a wall you don't put your eye on the wall, you look at it from a distance. When you want to MAKE the wall to look nice, you must do it under the same circumstances as when people look at it when it is finished. This means people look at it from a distance, and light comes from a distance.

Second, on the video the LED light looks pretty yellow. There was once a time all there was were these huge 500w & 1000w halogen building site lamps, and while they gave a lot of light, it was always very yellow, in the 2700K range. Now we've got these perfect small LED bulbs, 15 watt and an output of 2000 lumens at 5000K. These make a perfect lighting for building and painting, colours look very natural and they are so bright everything is very well visible. I always have 2 or 3 of them burning when I work. This Planex LED light would interfere with that light.

Putting a light on everything is ridiculous and counterproductive. I severly dislike lights on drills, I mean, sometimes they're useful when you quickly want to put a screw in a closet somewhere, but when you're doing some serious work you have good lighting anyway, and then most of the time that drill light is distorting the natural light that's already there. But for a Planex, who's going to do a professional wall job with very expensive equipment and then pass on bringing good light?

That's the point. It's not about visibility or color. If you want to inspect the surface and highlight defects, you put the object under raking light, a light at an oblique angle almost parallel to the surface. Festool even makes STL450 specifically for this purpose.
