New RACK of MINI systainers

Crazyraceguy said:
What do you guys do with all these minis? I only have two, and they are dedicated to Shaper Origin stuff.
One of them came with Plate, containing the clamps, pins, etc. The other also has a foam base that I cut to store router bits and a few collets, etc.
I don't have any actual Festool branded minis.

This is an exciting development. Because of the inability to stack these in my systainer stacks, I am currently using a M237, storing 4 minis inside enabling easier transport. I use minis for storing consumables (glues, tape, vacuum bags, sandpaper and more). I’m excited to see this come to the US- I’ll definitely end up with at least 1

Just snipped from Amazon.de
Language was set to Dutch, apparently the Festool stuff doesn't get translated.

EDIT: The snip does contain only Dutch, but the text above it was German.

I'm with you on this. I only have one -- also from Shaper -- and I find myself putting it in random places around the garage because I haven't found a proper home for it.

I'll probably consolidate the parts it holds into a larger SYS1 and give the Mini to one of the kids as a case for pens/pencils/markers.

This rack could be cool...but then I'd have to buy more minis. I'll stay tuned to see if anyone else comes up with interesting uses.

Agreed [member=75283]4nthony[/member] it's probably a great thing for guys who need to be mobile.  I have one of the M-89 Organizers and will likely get another one, but most of my hardware is in open bins that are in a wide drawer, or in a cubby behind me on the wall.

The second Shaper mini was, in hindsight, a mistake. I should have just gotten another Sys1. That second mini is already full.

CNC router bits and tools.  I keep mine in their plastic square end mill cases and have 3d printed some low profile SYS Org bins to sort them by purpose/shank.  Actually even bought an extra Shaper mini to do it.

They might have looked at the L-Boxx mini from Sortimo / Bosch. But that one is like €10 including the dividers;
Or €7 at the local Hornbach (within cycling distance  [cool])https://www.hornbach.nl/p/industrial-gereedschapskoffer-l-boxx-mini/10335237/
I highly doubt Festool is going to get near that price. But the Mini Systainer is probably sturdier. Not sure I trust the Systainer lid lock better though.

Fischer, Spax, Wago, etc. also sell assortments in these Mini L-Boxx's. I wonder if Festool / Tanos is gonna get the same.
The Spax Systainer already exists.

The "old" minis do go for €10:

I have always kept the square cases too, sometimes just empty though, because I have so many routers. I keep them for the item number, at bare minimum, but it not so great as a storage medium.
It's great for protection, but picking them out to read the label? No. I would rather have them open/easy, which standing in foam does very well.
The way I have the Shaper dedicated ones is not so space friendly, in fact it's wasteful, compared to the vertical. The foam is too thick for it though, since it nearly fills the Systainer.
My initial Systainer for Shaper items included space for bits too, mostly as a "keep it all in one place" thinking. That was short-sighted.

Yes, but no transparent lid and no dividers included.

This was a surprise. I was thinking the opposite; that the mini systainer went EOL..
I kind of liked mine, but they have needed some sort of self made insert to be useful.

Nice to se a rack SYS M to have them stacked together. Dividers too!

Seems like they will be released with various accessories as the drill bit set pictured.
Still, judging by the look of the insert they haven’t learned that the they should stack the items close together and leave free use space for the user/customer instead of “filling” the systainer with empty useless space…  [mad]

Thanks for pointing the supposedly new drill/driver bit set out! I missed that on the first glance.

However, seeing that - and other more recent past releases - makes me very happy to have bought the T-Loc installer's set when I did.

I really don't like the idea of either having to carry around the whole rack in a stack/ or with a single tool, or having to carry the tool/systainer in one hand, and the mini with the accessories in the other ... Of course, not mentioning having to re-pack and then wasting space in a SYS toolbox or whatever just so you can add a mini if you need it.

And I sure hope, this is not the reason behind the large Systainer for the new rotary hammer. If that inlay comes with a single cut out to put that new drill/driver bit assortment in, I won't know what to say.

Kind regards,
Oliver

What new Rotary hammer?
In what size Systainer? A rotary hammer in L-sized Systainer actually makes sense. Then it can finally fit the common 450/465mm long SDS drill bits (=400mm nett length) without going diagonal. I have my rotary hammer in an L-Boxx and that is too short too, so I have the longer drills diagonal. But it only fits a few of them before you can't close the lid and you have to grab them out of the way every time you take the machine out of the box AND when you put it back in.
Although Festool might not cater to the market needing long hammer drills.

That was me complaining .. remembered my DR 20 which came in a MAXI II while I now have it /with all options/ in a SYS 1 T-Loc. Ehm. It is a pretty heavy T-Loc though.

As for the bits, I have learned the hard lesson to never store consumables with the tools .. to never know with which tool a given drill bit is stored with when 100 kilometers from the other drill that had the right bit ..

But agree that for the pros who use just a few bits all the time it does make sense. Especially coupled with the new 508 mm carts.

What I use minis for:

One for putty, wax sticks, paint pens, and other touch-up supplies.

One with a cut up divider combined with the cut up insert for the Kreg mini-jig so I could have a small assortment of screws, the jig, bits, and clamp all in one box.

One for less-used hand tools for cabinet installs.

One for electrical tools and terminals, but I switched to the M89 organizer and will never go back.

My kid used to use them for Legos.

After a second glance it looks like the new minis have the annoying locking lid handle.

They come with dividers. This eliminates the wasted space of the currently available inlays.

Look at that knitting mini Cheese posted, see how much space is wasted by the black inlay?

This isn't always an issue, I use some of the inlays in mine, but if you want to max out capacity on wall plugs, screws, connectors, (...) dividers are a much better option. You will be able to fit in way more with the new minis.

And that might then lead to what Coen already said, maybe we are going to see some minis pre-filled and in corresponding/matching CI from leading manufacturers.

Kind regards,
Oliver
