New Rockler miter fold dado set

This is now available for pre-order.  Any thoughts/experiences?  It's $349 -- cheaper than a CNC setup with v-grooving bit, but still pretty expensive for an accessory.  It's apparently not compatible with Saw-Stop.

Jimmy Diresta did a drawer with it in one of his videos.  Great guy to follow if you have not.  He has his own channel, does stuff for Make and also has done a few for Rockler.



Neat idea but I personally prefer the look and strength of more traditional joinery.

Personally I think its a lot of money to spend on a one trick tool, and I think Id rather put it towards a Leigh dovetail jig for drawers. But I guess if you got the coin and you do a lot of drawers out of plywood.

I wonder how much itll cost to sharpen it and who will do it.

Cool. I recall the original video. Great that he was able to bring it to the market. That by it self is a huge and lengthy task. Hope he gets success!

The description on Rockler is 'Not compatible with SawStop or any other saws equipped with flesh-detection technology.'  I don't read this as it isn't compatible with the saw itself, but would have to be used on the SawStop in the blade bypass mode.  Thoughts?

The total diameter of the blade is over 8" so I am only guessing, but think the Sawstop incompatibility means the blade is slightly too large for clearance of the brake cartridge. Otherwise there does not appear to be any good reason why it would 't work. Width shouldn't be an issue.

Its also to do with the mass of the blade and the ability of the brake to stop it.

Yes it is a one trick tool, but if you need to make a lot of boxes or drawers this will save you a ton of time and frustration. It's a brilliant idea and is great for a production shop. How much is your time worth to you? Even if you aren't doing this as a business, or charge for your work, this would free you up to do more fun or interesting work rather than cutting hundreds of repetitive joints.
