Hi Everyone,

My name is John Peterson. Ive been lurking around this site for a few weeks, since i  began seriously considering replacing some of my current tools with Festool, and am amazed by the advice, knowledge and information available. As  you can see i registered today and wanted to give a little bio of myself before i began contributing to and making posts of my own.

I grew up around the trades, my father being a painter and my uncle who is an electrician. I spent a lot of time working for both of them and really loved the work. I have always had a knack for building, fixing and figuring out how things work and eventually started my own handyman company. Just 4 years ago i made the move from handyman type work to larger remodeling projects, which my favorite part of the job is definitely the finish carpentry work. I am small time with myself and one other guy, Ryan,  and focus on high quality work, honesty and building great relationships with my customers, 3 of which were actually at my wedding (just this past august).

I am a bit of a tool addict. It was out of control (so the wife says  ::) ) before i started down the green road, and can already tell that this Festool thing is going to be very dangerous! I just made my first purchase today which was the HL850, angle stop fence and rustic, undulating head for an upcoming "hand hewn" false beam project. I've got my eyes on many more including a vac, rotex and  track saw but am going to wait until after the Festool Connect event in Providence. Anyone else going to be there?

I'm excited to be part of the community and cant wait to start contributing in whatever way i can

John

[welcome]

Welcome to the forum, John. I think a lot of us got started with tools in a similar way. I just hope that our generation carries on the legacy and passes it to the next.

If you ever need anything, feel free to contact me.

Hey John!

Sorry about being late to welcome you, but  [welcome] [welcome].

Thank you for being a "former lurker" now and joining the ranks of tons of members just like you.  We have lots of members involved in 1,2,3 person operations as well as larger and as one of them I can tell you from experience that you will have an interesting time experiencing the introduction of Festools into your operation.  It can make a major impact.

Looking forward to hearing more about your experiences and your projects.

Peter

Welcome John.  And congrats on the recent wedding.  I hope you included a condition of maximum flexibility in buying tools in a prenuptial!

Share some of your work when you get a chance, including the beams!

Welcome John!  Looking forward to meeting you at the Connect this year!!!

Also looking forward to seeing some of your work!  I'm a small outfit as well (solo) and it sounds like you're heading down a great path!

Welcome John!  I really admire a man with his own business and a great business ethic.  Sometimes it seems hard to find.

I'm looking forward to seeing your new projects too.  Talk to you later!

Welcome, John!!  Congrats on your wedding and your first Festool...the planer is awesome!  Looking forward to reading future posts.

This is a tremendous group of people on FOG and the experts are so willing to give advice and answer questions.

Welcome!

Hey everyone, thanks for the warm welcome.. from a little reading i as doing of other posts it looks like 3 of you;  Shane, Peter and Bob, are going to the Festool connect event in RI. I look forward to meeting you all and getting to chat a little.   Is there any way you all seek out other FOG members at these events? this will be the first one i attend, including my first time at JLC

I will try to get some pictures of current and past work asap, although probably wont be for another week of so

Neil, my wife has her own addiction to shoes and clothes and purses and jewlery etc. etc. etc..... so we have a bit of a agreement going.. although she still doesn't understand that i spend money on tools to make money and she spends money on her stuff to ... well.... spend money i guess (ill never understand the shoes and clothes thing)

this is actually the first forum i am participating on so i am new to this. i dont quite understand a lot of the do's and dont's, what to ask/say   what not to ask/say where to post certain things     general overall etiquette i guess you can say.   along with adding links, pictures, quotes and all that good stuff. any good advise?

If you were addicted to tools before coming here, well....... I guess your bride is going to wind up with a lot of shoes. Welcome aboard.

For my wife, it's quilting and embroidery, I haven't had to play the card yet but one of these days I may need to point out her Bernina could support a pretty decent woodworking habit. ;D

Hey guys (and gals i suppose)  again, to every one new thank you for the warm welcome.  It is so cool to be connected to people who live 15 minutes form my house and others on different continents all with a common interest and willing to share their knowledge with others!

I just finished up a midterm at school, what a relief.  Im going part time for construction management, this semester is just 1 class,  Heavy and Highway Construction (not super helpful to what i do but still quite interesting)  Have any of you pursued similar degrees?  if so, did you enjoy it, what type of work do you do and did it prove helpful for your job/company?

unfortunately for me, your most likely right..   Those machines are pretty sweet, i have a customer who is big into quilting, its really amazing what they can do with those machines....  luckily i haven't had to pull the card yet either, ive made small references to individual purchases of hers before to get out of trouble but im saving using her collection as a whole for something big, maybe a Kapex in my future??? ;D
