New to site, New to Festool..have a Domino question

Greetings to all...just joined the site...been lurking for a few weeks since I decided to take the Festool plunge.

Got my Domino yesterday and have a question.

It is my understanding the center of the mortise to the edge of the baseplate is 37mm...Maybe that is from each retractable pin...I'm not sure.

Is it that accurate regardless of which side of the baseplate is used for indexing?  I am thinking of building a jig that will use the edge of the baseplate and will need to use both sides.

The center of the mortise to the inside edge of the indexing pins is 37 mm.  Center to edge of base plate is 66mm.

If you go to the link Corwin pasted, you'll find the supplemental Festool manuals that Rick Christopherson wrote. There's one for the Domino that is indispensable including the measurements you are asking (e.g., bottom of base plate to middle of mortise is 10mm, which is handy for http://halfinchshy.blogspot.com/2009/10/domino-butt-joint-to-line.htmlplacement in the middle of a board to a line).

Knowing all these dimensions to the center of the mortise or even the mortise width changes with the width selector will greatly help you better utilize the machine.

BTW, did you get one with the paddle stops or the steel pins?  This is the Festoolian equivalent to pins or tails...

ROFL, it's more aking to 'boxers or briefs', 'gel ink or regular', '280 or 300 thread count', 'incandescent or CFL'...  All of these options work but everyone seems to have a preference.  [unsure]  ... (pins for me)...

The link that Corwin gave is for my Multi-position Guide, but Paul assumed it was for the Festool Domino manual (which you should read) and it can be downloaded either from the Festool website, of from my website at: http://www.waterfront-woods.com/festool/

If you are looking to make jigs to reference off the ends, the ends are not machined after being cast.  Go to the last reply in this link and see Rick's reply:  http://festoolownersgroup.com/festool-tool-problems/domino-frustrations/

Rick has come up with something to create additional reference points and Corwin posted a link above.

Sorry, when I read the above I immediately thought of Rick's accessory as it allows for this.  I guess I should have spelled it out.

I appreciate everyone's advice here.

It seems the casting of the baseplate does now allow me to do what I was thinking about doing to index the baseplate for some face frame mortising.

I think I will try the paddle stops and see how this works.  My "practice" using the sight alignment are not that good yet, but as time goes on I read from others it gets better.

I looked at the MGS-20 and not sure I fully understand/appreciate how to use it but will continue to analyze it more to see if it is something I can use.

Ah, well I thought Corwin posted the link to the multistop jig, and that used to be at the top of the Festool manual page; I should have clicked to verify.  Usually on other forums when I post the manual link, I tell them there's info for a jig at the top so they don't think I linked incorrectly.

Peter brings up a point I remember from another thread; the sides aren't machined so, yeah, they may not be perfect; you'll have to measure your Domino.
