NEW TOOLS (N AMERICA!) June 1

I've not been a huge fan of metabo in the past but the new drill is a solid piece of kit.

I really like mine as well. 1.4 kg w/ the compact battery, but 90Nm of torque, and really compact for a beastly drill. The right angle chuck was pricey, but worth it.

My only complaint is the electronic clutch doesn't go low enough for light tasks like cabinet assembly. I complement it with a Bosch PS22, which is a gem in it's own right. 0.7kg, and even shorter front to back.

Holy moly, the PDC is cheaper than I thought it would be.

T18 For now and then a Bare PDC later?
Or just jump on the PDC? :>)

I don't have any of the 18v gear yet.
I'm only looking at the PDC for the higher RPM... not sure I need it though.

You can forget the T18, unless you need an eccentric chuck. I own both the PDC and T18, and I haven't used the T18 since purchasing the PDC.  Unfortunately, there is no eccentric chuck option for the PDC, so if that's an issue, then you'll have to do both, but otherwise go for just the one.

Just my $.02.

Cheers,

Frank

cant wait for the new cxs! i love the new compact 18v battery as well.

Does the new CXS battery have a fuel gauge on it? I didn't see one way or the other in the catalog.

Just in time! I've been thinking about buying the C15 for the past week or so. I'll definitely wait for the new C18 now.

Good to know. I was about to pick up a T18 and CXS. Now I think I'll just get the PDC and CXS combo. That should cover most all my drilling/driving needs.

I assume the older 18 volt batteries will work in the c18 drill?

Thanks
Frank

Of course they will....as well as the 15V batteries. You'll just get more time out of the 5.2amp bat's.

Cheers,
Frank

Nope, it has the fuel gauge, which is three green neons on the drill, incorporated into the task light.
I wished Festool when redesigning their new batteries, did include the fuel gauge on the battery rather than on the tool, just like some of the other manufactures have done. But this is just my personal preference.

I was hoping the vac-sys would be among the newly released items, but I guess we'll have to  wait a while longer for that.  All in all- great lineup of additions.  Really glad to see the release of the PDC- heard many praises on the FOG about it.  However, I'd be curious to hear from someone who has used it vs. other brands.  Anyone do a side-by-side comparison?

Regards,
Gerald

Well, I can tell you that it has some serious torque!! [eek]  I darn near sprained my wrist while drilling a 1 1/2" hole with a forstner bit when it got jammed in the hole!  Awesome power, and superb speed control. Better than my T18 by a long shot. You won't be sorry!

Cheers,
Frank

Frank,
I learned very quickly to attach the supplied handle to avoid this[emoji16]

Another method is to attach the right angle adapter and hold the drill "sideways". I have seen that method used in quite a few videos. Look forward to using mine next month.

Cheers. Bryan.

Thanks Frank and Brent.  After I sent my post, I found a video review by Peter Parfitt on the PDC- absolutely brilliant video Peter!  I now see what all the fuss is about- looks like I have to make room for another systainer!

Thanks guys for adding fuel to the addiction.  [scared]

Been there, often.  It's exactly why I'm still interested in the t18 as the primary drill and then getting the PDC, later, as a replacement for my current combi power-house.
:O

I do whole-heartedly accept and acknowledge your advice and will take it into consideration.

I'll be able to check them out side by side in June.  99.99999% of it is about fit, ergonomics and balance at this point.

This is for woodworking, primarily.  Seems like overkill, yet... mostly everyone else wants to manufacture garbage and have me pay at least half to the same price as Festool.  The rest want to make a quality product and then offer my local shops that show them love a whopping zero amount of after-sale support in return.

Per example, at the end of the day: the CXS has no competition.
It would be an insult to say so.  [cool]

Yeah, it and the newer Fein are definitely impressive.
Before considering the size!

Yesterday I came across this new style Maffel. The guys working outside the workshop is an interesting piece in the collection.

[thumbs up]
