More people use phones than PC by a huge number, Its not being hip, it's staying relevant. Mobile internet surpassed all forms of computer desktop and tablet internet use combined in early 2016 and will never go back.

That does not mean that most Festool tool owners prefer to watch instructional tool videos on a smartphone.

We are not talking about watching an episode of the Kardashians.

What do you think is the average age of someone who owns and uses more than two Festool tools?

I already said I prefer PC.

28% of Instagram user are 35-49, if that isn't the age group Festool is shooting for they are making a huge mistake.

Festool owners are similar to other human beings in that they have to constantly adapt to opportunities and not fall into the clutches of complacency.

If you want to see this free series, you gotta have Instragram and a phone.

I have Instagram and a phone.  I'll still pass.

Have you seen the videos from Laguna, Hammer/Felder, Dewalt TV, Milwaukee Tool, etc?  Much better than Festools, a supposedly premium tool manufacturer.  BTW, have you seen the Onekey app from Milwaikee?

Well Instagram is to get new users anyhow, not cater to existing customers(that's secondary I think), that's what the forum and this website are for. Instagram from my perspective is to tease potential new customers and get them to go to the website. That's one reason Instagram videos aren't all that great as far as in depth information or quality, they are more for creating a quick buzz or for stuff to go "viral". You Tube can do the same but allows for a better  video experience. Right now the phones adn Instagram videos aren't quite good enough for me to skip my PC.

I use Instagram to get to people I know never will come to my website otherwise.

What's Instagram?  [huh]
[poke]

Other than that, Instagram is just one of the most popular social media networks.

Yeah, we're not talking about social media, are we?  We are talking about INSTRUCTIONAL TOOL VIDEOS!

People that would benefit from an instructional tool video typically already own the tool.

This is just another example of how lazy Festool has become.

Actually, we are talking about a free, organic video series that is hosted on social media...yes.

I have watched a bunch of these videos and they are geared to people who own the tools.

I wouldn't call it lazy to be putting out free instructional content for users. I'd call that pretty freakin cool.

On FOG, when referring people to a how to video for a Festool product, whose videos are mentioned or linked to most often?

Peter Parfitt's or Eric/Erock's.  Of course, Festool has already soured Eric and he does not produce Festool videos anymore.

With all due respect to Peter and Eric, we are talking about Brian Sedgeley on this one.

'Nuff said.

On this forum, the customer is always wrong.

The only people debating on this thread are customers.

Thanks for proving my point.  ;D

I'd purposefully been staying out of this debate, because everyone is entitled to their own opinions on subjective topics like these. If you don't like Sedge's videos, it's not my place to tell you otherwise.

Everything doesn't have to be for everybody. Clearly, many people are enjoying the Instagram videos. Clearly, many people enjoy Instagram as a platform to consume content. If you're not one of those people, that's fine. This is just one thing. Hopefully, the next thing that we do will be more to your liking.

Clearly, I was referring to Instagram and not the videos or Sedge.

Can't the videos be placed on Festoolusa.com, youtube, and Instagram, in that order?

Festool is beginning to remind me of United, American, and Delta airlines, plus Sears, Disney and New Coke.

I clicked on the posted link and watched the videos. What is the problem? Who cares where it is hosted?

I suppose that the issue is that not all users use the various social platforms.

Personally I think that posting these types of videos would have a larger audience on youtube.

Festool could create a playlist called Sedge's Snippets or Training Tuesdays, or ... and just as easily upload an unedited video from their iPhone or iPad.

To post a reminder here that new videos are there on youtube wouldn't kill anyone work wise if they have someone who is specializing in social media in place also.

The non cross platform utilization of already created content lately is, I have to admit, puzzling and a major shortcoming in my opinion and will come back eventually to bite.  Today's platform may not be tomorrow's.  Spread the content, spread the knowledge, and spread the risk of something going away.

I concur with Peter on both counts, and suggest that there would be greater accessibility to the videos on YouTube.  I choose to not use social media, and it's blocked at work for those that do choose to use it.

As a pretty prolific producer of content, I will add that creating video for youtube is a different and more time consuming endeavor than doing one off instagram or facebook live vids.

If Sedge finds it convenient to use his phone and shoot on Instagram, thats cool, I am glad he is sharing. I know him well enough to know that he is not going to set up a tripod camera and shoot raw footage to edit and upload to youtube. Probably Tyler doesn't have time to either. Beyond that, you get into needing a video production company, which incurs major costs.

These videos are cost effective to produce, and free organic tips for users. Like someone said, who cares where they are hosted...we should just be glad the info is being put out and shared.

For  me the videos that have been done are great. Sedge is very entertaining with his "Boston" accent and the information is  relevant and short enough for me to implement it, save it for further reference (like button) and to remember it.

Please continue to produce them for whatever platform is the easiest to get the message out there. I would hate to think that these videos stop getting published because of feature creep.

What questions would you like to see Sedge answer?

Maintenance of or at least lubrication of the Kapex. There was a story by one of the contractors who took a course with Sedge and they showed them why for instance the saw stays stuck in the down position after it gets broken in and how to fix it.

Thanks again.

Tim
