No dust extract with of 1400 ?

Bought my OF1400 a couple of weeks ago. No chip catcher or underneath dust port, just the one that clips onto the base.

Thanks for looking Garry.
As a new person to Festool it is making me think should I press on with the system. This is not low cost kit and the items I mentioned were in a UK review and I did get the OF 1400 EBQ PLUS GB 240.
I got one in January in the UK and no it doesn't come with the dust shroud or the 8mm collet.

Regards the collets, that's only the same as most other manufacturers supply. You usually only get a 1/4" and a 1/2" collet.

I've got a load of 8mm cutters I've been using in my 1010 so an 8mm collet would be handy for the 1400 but I'll just have buy one .

If you look Peter parfits review is quite old and the contents have changed.

Hope that helps

I wonder if [member=11196]Peter Parfitt[/member] could update his YouTube video or description associated with it to make it clear that the scope of shipment and inclusion of items can change over time and that it's always best to check with Festool UK or your dealer?

Hi Garry

I understand the point entirely but then it would have to be put on every video being made - something along the lines of "do check the range of included accessories in your area prior to purchase".

My only concern it that it highlights something that may not be seen as good marketing. People might wonder why the accessories have been removed. People may become suspicious. It would be far better to keep the kit list the same for the life of the product unless there is a replacement needed due to a problem.

My 1400 (4 or 5 yrs old) came with 8mm 12mm 1/2" collets both dust shouds rail kit 2 ring adaptors rods / fence all of which I would consider essential and not optional in the slightest for most trade users!

Personally I think the very worst aspect of Festool's marketing is the manner they over charge and under spec with accessories, given the premium on the tools (which is by and large justified) and the fact that the accessories aren't covered warranty wise It's a very cheap / greedy approach. There must be many who go elsewhere when they add in the additional costs.

In a similar vein the jump between basic PDC or full set offers no midway option with all attachments and chucks but no batteries or chargers which surely would have much more appeal for those who have numerous batteries / chargers... especially when so many chucks won't fit all models.

Hello Peter
Just to confirm that I do not blame you in any way and thank you for all your hard work and great utube clips.
As a working joiner I am used to buying pro kit that has all I need to hit the boards running and have been ribbed at work for buying fancy festool kit as the lads use Trend,Makita and Dewalt.
I have 1/4 and 1/2 inch cutters by Titman and Trend so will not miss the mid size collet but to work between a 1100 and a 1400 it would be handy so may not bother with a 1100.
Regards Mike Bone.

Agreed. But clearly that's not happening...

It is a system.

Yes a festool router should intergrate as part of a system, when I got the MFT I was not expecting to find a router in the box with the table as I have never seen them in any review as being part of the same kit.. I could buy the extract system but the part will not be in that box either.

[member=60804]Redcarjoiner[/member] I feel for you I do. As I mentioned, I had a similar issue.

But I guess at the end of the day neither of us should have relied on a review on YouTube to determine what we should expect to receive when we buy something. As great as Peter's videos are, he isn't a representative of Festool.

By the way, I think [member=40772]Holmz[/member] had his tongue placed firmly in his cheek with his "it is a system" comment...  [wink]

I'm not so sure about what you say about Peter, he was listed as a staff member on their website some time ago.

Bought my of1400 about 10yrs ago and it came with the the dust shroud you are missing but not the 8mm collect.

You can use the black clip on dust shroud (which I presume you got?) with the fence if the bits are not too big.

That is the first I have heard of this - where did you get this from ?

Pretty much... Everyone goes on and on about pioneering dust collection, but I think that the part that was shown may actually be an "extra". I was thinking it was the main dust chute. [embarassed]

I saw you listed on the Uk festool site as staff, around two or more years ago. I'm surprised you don't know about it.

Guys, if Festool kept the kit parts the same, they might have to raise their prices periodically.

Oh wait...

According to Festool USA online catalog, if that dust catcher had been part of the kit at one time and then was removed, adding it back by the buyer would be roughly equivalent to an 8% price increase.

I agree that this seems to be a poor long term strategy for Festool. High end tools for top tier prices where you have to check the kit to see if something useful/important has been removed.

I see these as back door prices increases that do not help the reputation of Festool. To me, it sort of reinforces the "Festool plays us for suckers" concept that non users have.

Many thanks.

I will take this up with Festool HQ in Germany. I will let them know how I found out.

I used my replacement  1400 router for the first time today putting 40 metres of round over on some soft wood timber and wish I had got a dust extract to go with it.
Nice little go-to router.
