New to me and have not seen it mentioned here.

Interesting (different) features compared to the Voyager, the motor is not integrated into the head so it can be much more easily serviced/replaced, and this machine has laser sight lines built-in.
 
Nice machine, especially if space is limited, I love my Voyager but, I think this will be well received and sell really well  [thumbs up]
 
I didn’t know this existed either. I’ve been looking at drill presses, but was looking at floor standing models since I would need to build a cart to place a bench top model on both taking up about the same floor space. Looked at the Voyager, but it’s more than I want to spend, but this has me thinking of getting this benchtop version and building a cart.

That is really cool.  I bought a Delta floor model in 1991.  To this day I'm not sure why I needed a floor model other than it looks dope in the shop.  This is a nice size, and certainly the price is more enticing than the floor model (that never goes on sale).  Thanks for pointing this out, Mike.
 
Woodcraft has the same price. I suspect it's a manufacturers promotion.

Good deal!  I didn’t think there would be a sale on this drillpress, or a coupon that would apply, I ordered Saturday from Amazon coming from CPO and it’s being delivered tomorrow. Went with Amazon with 5% back from the Amazon card.

Gonna need to figure out a temporary mounting solution as I planned on a floor drillpress, so now I need to build a cabinet.

Got mine delivered yesterday. The motor housing cover was dented and paint cracked. Other than that seems to be in good shape. Will look into getting the cover replaced.

This thing is pretty beefy for a benchtop press. The specs say 154lbs, but UPS shipping says 113lbs. I need to figure out a stand design to support this. I just ordered 8020 material for my MFT-style work bench I’m making and ordered extra material so I will probably use this.

Can you post up a picture of yours when you get it setup in your cart?

Michael, just got my Viking delivered a couple days ago, thanks for this thread. I am looking at getting a keyless chuck and saw your post in a voyager thread about this keyless chuck you have.

You mentioned an issue getting drillbits to clamp up properly and was curious if you figured this out and if you’d still recommend this chuck. Zoro has 20% off this week, so it’s a good deal. I know the recommended chuck is the Albrecht, but double this chucks price.

[member=71544]08G8V8[/member]  I have to tilt over to not recommending the Llambrich. I ended up with two of the same model and had difficulty getting tooling to run true in either of them. Generally it’s not too far off to use a drill bit at first tightening but needed holes in aluminum to be exactly positioned and then then tap the holes so the bit and tap had to be true. It often took several (or more) tries. I couldn’t figure out the reason but I haven’t heard of people with Albrecht chucks having this difficulty. Doesn’t mean they don’t though.

Here is a 25% of code for Zoro that’s good through tomorrow.

Order has to be a minimum of $275

You'll be happy with the Albrecht...I keep a 1-13 in my drill press, a 0-10 in my lathe and I have an extra 0-10 available for the drill press for drilling really small holes.

Albrecht guarantees runout to be .0015" or less.

The only word of caution is if you are using any keyless chuck for tapping. You'll probably need to use the keyed chuck. FWIW...Albrecht does offer a "Reverse Lock" keyless chuck.

I will be tapping a bunch of holes for my 8020 workbench when I get my order, but those will all be done by hand since they will be in the ends of the profiles and will be too long to be done on the drillpress.

I went through one of the Nova Voyager threads and got a lot of good info.  I ordered a 5" long .5" diameter steel dowel from McMaster and will be ordering a dial indicator and magnetic base from Zoro later today and will check the runout on the Albrecht chuck and the keyed chuck that came with the Voyager.  I bought another arbor for the Albrecht as well, so I can swap back quickly. I will see how the stock chuck runout measures.

Tapping is the reason I stuck with the Llambrich. The model I used is designed for wrench (included) tightening when needed so it can run in reverse.

I still don’t understand how a straight smooth rod can be tightened non-concentrically. My technique is to do a quick twist to grasp the bit then open up the slightest amount that allows rotating the bit and then slowly re-tighten as I continue rotating the bit until it’s really tight.

When I realized that could happen and got it to run true (the multiple function buttons help, I set one to slow speed and can easily see how the bit spins) I marked the rod and chuck so I could get it straight again later but that trick for minimizing runout in bent tooling and crummy chucks didn’t work with a straight rod and a good chuck.
