Hi Viking owners,

I have a Viking on order and am building an 80/20 stand with drawers. I would like to have this ready to set the drill press on when it arrives without having to move it later. To that end I would to drill 4 holes in the top to attach the base but need a measured drawing of the base (which I haven't been able to locate) or at the least the measurements (width, length and distance from front end of slot to the front edge of the base) along with a center to center measurement from slot to slot. Does anyone here know where I can find that info or be wiling to take the measurements off the base of their Viking? I would greatly appreciate any help you all can provide!

I measured my Viking for you.

The base is 10.5" by 18.375".

The holes average 0.52" diameter.

All four holes are set back 1.385" to the centerline from each edge.

The slots are 5.375" on center and 2.75" back from the front edge.

Thanks Erich!

Did you get your stand made?  I’ve got mine on a temporary stand and was also looking at making a stand from 8020 material. I bought extra material when making my workbench but haven’t got anywhere with the drillpress stand yet. Post up some pictures if you can. Thanks

Yes, I have my stand complete and Viking attached. I will upload some pics later this week. I also got the Albrecht Keyless Chuck off Zoro with 20% discount (roughly $340 shipped). Real happy ith everything so far.

Thanks

Perfect, thanks so much. I was looking at around a 24” cube since I have (4) sticks of 72” 1515 extrusion.

I didn't really make it clear in my reply but the dimensions are the 820 stick sizes so the depth and width need to add 3" (1 1/2" for each piece of stock) for for outside dimensions. The height is actual 25"

Got it. Yeah, I scaled it off the screen and figured it had to be around 23” wide horizontal stick in the front, so 26” wide overall.

I started laying it out at 24” cube, but it leaves me excess unusable material, so I will grow all directions to maximize my material.

Curious to know if it would be possible to take a voyager and have the
shaft cut down so that it could be used as a bench top unit....

Would anything prevent that from being possible?

Don’t see why you couldn’t, the post is just a rotocast iron pipe ground round. At least that’s what it looked like to me. The downside is you’re left with a very large base for a bench top machine.

good point about base size...

but then I assume that the notched rails on the side of the shaft would need
to be cut down also....  but they are tapered at the ends to fit into a collar...

that seems to be the hurdle....

Waiting on a nova viking drill press, and bought an albrecht chuck off ebay used. It need an arbor so it will fit on the press(MT2 taper). Just wondering if there is a certain brand of arbor I should be looking at. On  ebay there is a veteran owned company that sells arbors with .0004" runout. Very reasonable in price.Wondering if that will suffice.
Thanks for your help.

We finally have our drill press properly accessorized.

Nova Viking with Albrecht chuck, W.L. Fuller imperial brad points, Fisch wave cutter forstners, and Fisch metric brad points.

Yes, we are tool nerds.

My Nova Viking just arrived. My model doesn't start if the chuck guard is not attached. Does anyone knows how this could be circumvented?
