oak/Wenge spiral staircase -newpics

Eiji,  I like the Plug-It mod, too.  I don't own one of those "puppy-sized" belt sanders --yet.

a little PC beltsander mod makes for a dustless scribing machine.  ;D

sorry for the off topic.

Eiji,

Not off topic at all. I wish I had rigged up something like that. Festool is turning me into a dust collection nut and I can't think of anything more in need of DC than shaping MDF with a belt sander.

Jim,
you are right on. I just love to sand now that I dont have dust going everywhere. It was just a dreaded task before Festool, along with finishing. Now I like both. Props to Festool and Fuji.  :)

The DC hookup mod is this: The DC port out of the box hax a double ring so you can attach either a 2 or 1.25" hose. The outer ring gets in the way of the thickness of the 27mm festool hose end. Cutting off the outer ring enable the festool hose to slip on all the way. It fits really well with a good friction fit. I woulnt want to do without the plug-it adapter though.

My friend finally got the family out of the house long enough to get 4 coats of poly on the stairs.
It really enhanced the contrast between the oak and the wenge, unfortunately it's very hard to capture the wenge grain on camera.

Tried to get the wenge grain in a shot. Very pleased with how the blue tape helped create clean lines where everything meets the stringer.

Thanks for looking.

Jim,

Give us larger photos, please.  When I click on any of the last set of images, they do not enlarge.

Eiji,

I still hate to sand, even with good dust collection.  Hence I have a growing collection of now mostly Festool sanders.  I don't yet have one of those little PC belt sanders.  I am still learning that when I think I am done sanding, I am really about 1/3 to 1/2 done.  Patience is a virture I am still impatiently waiting to develop.

That is the identical mod that needs be done on the DeWalt 618 routers too, so if you have one just do the same thing, take off the outer ring. The DeWalt routers have their own plug it system so that was already available. That with the great dust collection is why I like those 618 routers.

I just sanded the outer shell off with my disc sander on both the  DeWalt and Porter Cable fittings. I actually did that long before I received the plug it connectors.

Jim looks great, but the pics are a little small!

Jim, nice website and once again, enjoyed the conversation on the plane.  This is a great website and very impressive work.  Hope your trip home was good.  Glad to have met you and wish you all the best!  Keith
