It take 5 minutes to contact the host of the forum website and ask for SSL. The SSL will be up and running within minutes and nothing needs to be done to the forum or by the forum admin(other than simply asking the host to apply an SSL cert to the website) or anything at all.
They are probably already paying for it and don't realize it, I was. All I had to do was ask and my host added SSL at no additional cost.
