We have a relatively new OF-1010 at the office. I used it today for the first time, and the dust collection on it was sterling. Much better than my old OF-1000. The only difference I can see is that the plastic piece that surrounds the bit has a top that encloses the area, which I believe gives the extractor a better pull on the cut area.

I went to EKAT to see about ordering one of the new surrounds, but the exact same part number and line drawing appear in every version of both the OF-1000 and OF-1010, from the oldest to the newest. Part #450507 (callout 68 or 69 in all the drawings).

Anyone know what the story is on that part and if that part number will be the hood that we have on the new OF-1010?

Answered my own question with a closer look at the new one and a little more digging on EKAT. The new part is 466885, which appears to snap into 450507. I ordered a few. I will be thrilled if this is a $1.50 snap in solution on a 20+ year old router.

Can you provide a link to EKAT? Is it USA or Europe? I see it mentioned often but don't know what it is.

Also, for dust collection I saw a video of a guy that was an expert at 3-d printing. He wanted to improve DC for his Makita trim router. He made a couple of nice dust ports that performed well. He then just used masking tape to close up the area exposed around the bit and reported it worked as well as his elegant solution.

Personally, I always just google "Festool EKAT" in case it ever changes; it's hard to link to directly because the link contains a session ID.

Best way is to go tohttps://www.festoolusa.com/service/repair-service/spare-parts then scroll down to "To the spare parts catalogue >>" and it will take you to EKAT.

Wow and wow again.

The first "wow" is Festool parts service. Ordered parts Thursday morning and had them on my porch Friday afternoon.

The second "wow" is Festool engineering. A new part introduced within the last year or two snapped onto my 20 year old OF-1000 router like it was part of the original design.

If you have an OF-1000 or OF-1010, you can improve your dust collection by a huge margin for a buck and a half (sadly, plus shipping).
