OF 1400 question

I am considering an OF 1400 purchase sometime this year and I have a question, allthough it may be unnecessary with the quality and engineering that goes into Festool products.
I know the router will work excellent with the guide rail and also has excellent dust collection, but is it easy to see the bit with the dust collection shroud on for say following a line to rout freehand?

No, but it sure isn't because there's dust on your safety glasses  ;D

While it is not the OF 1400, the OF 1010 has the dust port and hose connection built into the base. This will give the user a clear view while collecting dust.

Here is a look at both routers

And here is a look at the OF 1010 base

But the DC on the 1010 is not very effective without the clear pastic thingy installed, and when it's installed it lowers the visibility a lot. (And the hose snags more easily with the 1010)

Would the dust collection on the OF1400 or OF1010 be significantly superior to a DeWalt DW618, the one that a vac hooks up to one of the plunge rails?

I own both a Dewalt 621 and both of the Festool routers, and in my opinion, the DC on the Festool routers is far superior.  The Dewalt is very good though, I'm just spoiled by almost no dust escaping on the Festools.

I agree with Steve.  Additionally, with the DeWalt the hose had to attach to the top of the plunge mechanism, making the assembly topheavy and needing to fall over.

Thanks for a straight answer.  Suppose I should get an OF1010 ordered before the price jump, now that it has been announced.
