OF 1400 what do I need?

Festool Guide Rail Adapter FS-OF 1400 (P/N 492601)
....
Running pad with chip deflector
LAS-OF 1400 this seems like a no brainer but the price is a little high, why is that? I really like the extended support base although it could quickly get in the way when working on smaller workpieces..

Oh I forgot to mention. If you're going to buy the FS-OF guide rail adaptor you don't actually need the LAS-OF.
I'm sure it's a nice accessory..but overpriced!

You got the dust shroud and chip deflector in the package and with the FS-OF it's easy to avoid tilting the router when chamfering/rounding edges doing like this...

Congrats with your choice of router...think you're going to love it. I do!

First you should visit Festool USA's blog and read about some of the accessories here. You will find some very fine articles and links there.

If considering the MFS, I'd go for the MFS 700 instead of the MFS 400. I find the MFS 700 more usefull. Look here.

I'll be buying the OF 1400 in a week or so, thanks for the kind words!

Interesting point. about the MFS 700 I'll consider it. I notice longer down the thread though that there can be a reasons for getting the 400 and adding other  elements later..

If you do a lot of routing edges and hinges you should look into the OF-FH plexiglas routing aid - or an extra parallel guide; see this article

[/quote]

Cool idea! I think I'd go the extra parallel guide route..

And finally you will soon find out that you need a router table...CMS! Look here.

For router cutters I can recommend either Festool's (of course [wink]) or CMT. You can buy CMT cutters at Carl Ras and Dorch & Danola; both companies are danish tool shops with internet shops.

Argh the router table, love the idea hate the cost, but it is a slick system, that's whats cool about the Festool brand...

I know them acout Carl Ras, Dorch & Danlola thanks, solid compnies, I 've bought some things in Dennark from Milner in Copenhagen the CT Midi, the Carvex from Autocolor the Carvex blades from Gearschlitz both based in Germany.  CMT router bits  ? Ill look into them when I get over the initial buying shock til min lommebog!

Tusind tak Henrik!

Edge trimming cutter HW D12, 7/NL25 KL (really a need)
Dowel bit HW D5 x 30 Z (nice to have)
Cutter HW D18/30 with plunging great for dadoing out shelves/edges
Cutter HW D10/20 with Bohrschneider (spiral bit i think)
Ogee cutter HW D16, KL 7/R2 (round grooves)
Ogee cutter HW D25, R6, 5, 3 KL (roundover)
Ogee cutter HW D31, 7/R9, 5 CL (roundover)
Chamfer cutter HW D36/45Grad KL nice for making a 45° on rounded pieces cut with the carvex
Slotting HW D40 x 4 (for template cutout work.)
Zinc cutter HW D14, 3/15 ° (for Dovetails..)

I found it really difficult to figure out which cutters were included when I was looking to buy it. I hope the below part numbers help as you'll be able to locate the individual cutters, their descriptions and prices. Sounds like a good deal.

Edge trimming cutter HW D12, 7/NL25 KL (491027) (bearing guided)
Dowel bit HW D5 x 30 Z (491066)
Groove Cutter with drill point HW D18/30 (490969)
Groove Cutter with drill point HW D10/20 (490959) (NOT a spiral bit)
Ogee cutter HW D16, KL 7/R2 (491009) (bearing guided)
Ogee cutter HW D25, R6, 5, 3 KL (491013) (bearing guided)
Ogee cutter HW D31, 7/R9, 5 CL (491015) (bearing guided)
Chamfer cutter HW D36/45Grad KL (491025) (bearing guided)
Slotting HW D40 x 4 (496054) (bearing guided)
Dovetail Cutter HW D14, 3/15 ° (490992)

Thanks for clearing things up, so the two drillpoint bits would be used for cutouts, all the rest for edging work.. I want a scribe bit and a rounded groove bit as well...

Lastly on the subject of bits I wonder exactly which bits would benefit most by having a 12mm shank, I'm interested but cost wise I see they are considerably more expensive...

.... (you'll want to look at the UKJ copy rings that Peter Parfitt has reviewed elsewhere here on FOG), they are nice and very reasonably priced.

Reiska! You're killing me!  [big grin]
Can't find the thread and review about any UKJ copy rings. And trying to google UKJ copy rings only results in pictures of white dogs, pink shirts and green nails...and other weird stuff [blink]

Do you remember which thread it was? You see Im quite curious now [tongue]

Kind regards

PW: I don't quite understand why you need to get the guiderails from DK?

I ordered mine from ffx in the UK and they happily delivered them all the way to Finland.

Henrik: Sorry for the typo!

I was looking at the guide rings setup with skabelon that Peter Parfit demonstrated, and it struck me that you use a lot of depth with the setup plus you have to buy an extra adaptor so out of curiosity I checked out the standard coping rings from Festool for the OF 1400 with these you lose very little depth of course depending on the thinkness of the skabelon..

Here from Gearshlitz .de

492180 KOPIERRING KR-D 13,8/OF1400/VS 600 492180 Festool - 12,65 €

492181 KOPIERRING KR-D 17/OF1400/VS 600 492181 Festool  - 12,65 €

492182 KOPIERRING KR-D 24/OF1400/VS 600 492182 Festool  - 12,65 €

492184 KOPIERRING KR-D 27,0/OF1400 492184 Festool            - 12,65 €

492179 KOPIERRING KR-D 8,5/OF1400/VS 600 492179 Festool  - 12,65 €

                                                                                        63,25 €
Prices include Vat

So somewhat more expensive but still offers a lot of flexibility and with thinner skabelons you would gain more depth. Finally no extra steps just pop them into the standard base..

I also thought the circle skabelon could be usefull but at times might be difficult to work with depending on the workpiece and if you are working on installations.. I might get it anyway..Or get a blacksmith to make me up a thinner one..

That's okay Reiska with the typo. Actually I had seen the review but just forgotten all about it again.  [big grin]

Maybe PreferrablyWood wants to buy guide rails at a local shop because it's better to be safe then sorry. So he doesn't end up receiving a parcel with a piece of u shaped curly aluminum scrap! [tongue]

Last year I ordered some 2 metre long MFT profiles. Boy...was that package beaten up! It looked as if it had gone through the battlefields of both world war 1 and 2! [blink]
UPS, DHL and most of the other freight companies out there sure know how to beat up parcels!
(Fortunately there was only a small damage on one of the profiles - a small piece was slightly bent and I could fix it.)

Kind regards
Henrik

Well my supplier gershwitz in germany won't ship them to Denmark, being soon very short on funds, (i wonder why) I'll just walk into a local shop pick one up in a months time.
