It was a single piece with carbide cutting edges fused to the body.

If the bit you want to spin is too wide for the base plate you can take a piece of wood and attach it to the bottom of the plate to bring the cutters down lower than the throat. You won't be able to plunge with it but if your just putting an edge on something it works great.

Your post's downloads didn't work for me (empty). Please explain about attaching a piece of wood to the plate.
BTW: I have used bits with larger diameters than the base plate's opening, being sure not to let the plunge springs retract the bit, but it was an unnerving procedure. I've also used an shaft extension. That is also more exposure than I like. Now that I just wrote that, I realize there may be a use for fixed based routers.

With the 2200 you can leave the fine adjust interlock on the plunge shaft locked so you can't unplunge. It then operates like a fixed base with a very accurate fine adjustment.

I can't really justify the cost of one of these but, damm, it's a nice machine. Maybe I'll hit the lottery or FT will have a sale.
