OF1010 defective or not?

Hello everyone,

I'm pretty new to woodworking, so I don't know what to expect in several instances. This is one of them. I bought a new OF1010 a few months ago and I just started using it last weekend. Today I noticed that it's not entirely flat on the bottom. If it's sitting on my MFT/3 table top, I can wiggle the router such that the right-rear and left-front rock back and forth and will lift off the table about 1mm. I cannot wiggle it at all in the other direction (left-rear to right-front). I've double and triple checked that there is nothing on the bottom of the router or on the table, and I tried rotating it on the table and trying different locations on the table to make sure it's not the table that's warped. In all cases, I saw the same movement.

I took a video with my phone and posted it here:

What you're seeing in the video is me wiggling the router base with one finger by very lightly pressing down. It doesn't take much pressure at all to cause the movement.

My question is, is this normal? Or should I be figuring out how to file a warranty claim?

It should not wiggle but be 100% flat.

If you are sure it's the router base and not because of the table it is on, then you should contact Festool's service department.

One could could lap it, but I assume if the base is not flat, then the spindle is also not orthogonal to the base.

I seems pretty second hand for a quality machine.

One last test you could do before making the service call is to unscrew the sub base and see if the router itself is wiggling, or whether it's the plate.  Whatever the reason, that should not be happening -- Festool will take care of it one way or another.

Hate to read about tool issues.  You could try all sorts of things but at the end of the day it appears to have an issue and contacting Festool will be your best and quickest solution.  Personally I prefer to call that way if they have any suggestions it cuts down on trading emails.

LOL, no it should not do that.

As mentioned take the sub base off to make sure it's not something dumb like a mounting screw just being proud of the base and see if the unit itself is good and flat.

If it's not some obvious problem definitely call and get it taken care of.

Hope it wasn't a holiday gift you were planning to get done with it :)

It's a great little router and extremely versatile with all the accessories.

Good luck

Well, another update. I tried rolling the track guide bars on a flat surface and they aren't straight either. Makes me wonder if this thing was damaged somehow before I got it. That said, there aren't any signs of it (no chips or scrapes or anything) so who knows. I'll call Festool tomorrow.
