OF1010 micro adjustment wheel on depth bar problem

Please bear with me, this is my first post...

I have browsed through similar topics but have not seen the solution: After setting the depth of the router bit in accordance with the instructions - and YouTube videos I might add - the green micro adjustment wheel on the depth bar starts turning by itself whilst using the router. The turning is possibly caused by the motor turning and/or vibration? This is rather annoying apart from ruining ones work piece.

Is this common on the OF1010?

Is there a solution to this or should I return the router to the dealer to have it checked out?

One may of course lock the router at the desired depth with the knob handle, but this is not always feasible

Comments / solutions will be appreciated

Regards

First,  [welcome] to the FOG.

I can't answer your question, but I suspect someone will pop in very soon to do so. In the meantime, if you need an immediate answer consider calling Festool directly at 800-554-8741 on Monday-Friday between 8a-5p EST. Unlike certain other tool companies, not only are they are quite knowledgeable they are also happy to help!

Not sure if it's common but it has happened to mine.

If it's the same problem that I had, I was not able to completely lock the rod in place because the locking lever hit the body of the router when I tightened it.
First, I tightened the lever on the fine adjustment as much as I could. Then I  loosened the Philips screw that fastens the lever to the fine adjustment rod, carefully removed the lever from the hex nut and rotated it 30-60 degrees counter clockwise. I pushed it back on the hex bolt and put Philips screw back on.

I was now able to tighten the lever and put more pressure on the stop rod so the fine adjustment didn't move and move the stop rod down when I ran the router.

It's always a good practice, but I forget when I am in a hurry. [wink]

I experienced the same problem. I didn't fix it, but used a work-around: I bottomed out the fine adjustment in one direction so it couldn't move by itself anymore. (And stopped using the fine adjustment alltogether)

Thank you Wow, Tim and Frank-Jan for the replies

Prior to posting the topic, I have also adjusted the locking lever by 30º counter-clockwise - this however does not prevent the micro adjustment wheel from turning by itself. I have also done what Frank-Jan suggested - albeit that it works, it defeats the object.

I have also directed the little problem to Festool South Africa and will let you know what they come up with.

Festool SA had a look at the router:

Whilst testing, the micro-adjustment wheel made its move again...

Replaced part no. 54 (see E-Kat) and the wheel is much stiffer now.

For the sake of belt and braces I asked the technician to put it two of these spring loaded washers.

Problem solved. For now...

A spring loaded bearing ball below and perpendicular with the wheel will be a much better and permanent solution, in my opinion

Thanks for the update.
Gonna order that part from my friends at atlas.
