OF1010 Router plunge springs -- a bit sticky?

I just got a OF1010 router yesterday, and after checking it over, the plunge springs seem a bit sticky.

When I press down on my OF1400 router, it springs right back up. The OF1010 will pop back up, but rather slowly.

Wondering if it will "loosen up" as I use it more, or if this is normal.  Anyone else have the same experience?

Jeff, the plunge action should be similar to your OF 1400. If you purchased locally and its convenient, swap it out for another unit if you're not satisfied with it. You can also try to put a couple of drops of a light oil on the plunge columns. It may just be that it's been sitting in inventory in a humid location and gotten some oxidation on the columns. The oil will do the trick if that's the case.

Of course, we're always available if you want to give our guys in the service department a call and discuss it. If there's anything I can do to help you out, feel free to hit me up.

I too have experienced the same situation with my 1010 since day 1. I can't remember when I got it...probably within the past 2 years, but my 1400 is as smooth as a baby's backside!  The 1010 is tolerable but the action could be much better.

Shane,

I was able to get it working perfectly... Oiling the columns didn't seem to make a difference. I unscrewed the locking handle and put a few drops of oil into that threaded hole. Now it works perfectly!

Thanks for the tip

Thanks for the update, Jeff.  I've got a sticky 1010, also, and will give this a try.

I will also try that...it didn't occur to me that that could be the possible cause.

I too have the same problem with my new 1010. Jeff just wondering what type of oil did you use?

Thanks.

Just take it apart real quick and give everything a wipe down and a cleaning and a lite coat of a simple oil.

It's super easy to do on the 1010, a little more tricky on the 1400.

But both will allow it and will be perfect afterwards.

"Machine oil" like you'd find in any hardware store.  Nothing heavy weight like motor oil, unless your plunging above 3000ppm  in which case you should change the spark plugs and oil filter as well ;D.

Yep, mine had the same stickiness. There was some gunk on the rods from new that I cleaned off with a paper towel and goo-gone, got the rods nice and clean, then applied a drop of T-9 Boeshield (from woodcraft) on each rod. Now the action is smooth as silk and the router bounces up with gusto from plunged. I can also now plunge with minimal pressure.

Thanks guys. I cleaned the plunge rods, a little 3-in-1 oil and the plunge action is  smooth as silk. [big grin]
