Hi Everyone, first question, I think, after much research and discussion with other users I settled on the OF1010 router, suits my needs/requirements and have found it to be a very nice little machine.

Question that has come to mind and I checked the search area first and couldn't find a directly related question or answer. I'm in the middle of a little project and I want to make some rebates at 25mm wide and I've noticed that the clear perspex/plastic removal chip collector is barely wide enough to accommodate the diameter, noting that the maximum size for this router is 50mm is it safe/ok to remove this plastic hood?
Many thanks in advance Dave W

First off  [welcome]  to the Fog.

As guybo mentioned, it's just there for dust collection, if you need it use it...if not don't use it.

Thanks Guys - appreciate the feedback - I did end up experimenting and found I had nothing to worry about..

I removed mine by accident once when I let a bigger router bit come up, hitting it while spinning. It broke  [tongue]. But I have replaced it.

I'm going to suggest you consider making those rebates in multiple passes with smaller tooling with the OF1010. Even with an 8mm shank cutter, 25mm can be a "big bite". It will do them, but better results might come from a more conservative approach.
