Does the OF1400 come with anything to cut circles or do I have to buy something else? I finally have a few projects coming up that will give me an excuse to buy myself a router, hehe.

I will want to cut about a 24" diam circle.

thnx

If you are going to be cutting a lot of circles and need high precision, get the MFS.  Search the forum for a video - the MFS is not intuitively obvious, but its a sweet tool when you get to know it.

For occasional circles,  just get some longer screws for the OF1400 baseplate and attach it to the end of a piece of 1/4 ply or mdf thats a foot or so longer than your circle's radius.  Plunge the bit thru the ply to mark where the bit will cut. If you want a 24 inch wheel, measure 24 inches from the inside cutting edge of the bit and mark that spot for your pivot point.  Drive a nail thru the pivot point mark on the ply into the workpiece where the center of the circle should be.  If you want a 24 inch hole measure from the outside of the bit.

Nice look your question has been answered. There's no trammel for the 1400 like there is for the 1010. You'll need to improvise or use the MFS. A search on the forum will likely yield some topics where others have come up with solutions of their own.

Does festool still make a circle cutting jig? I have one that I picked up years ago and haven't used it in as long. It's basically a large piece of acrylic/polycarbonate with a slot in it for adjusting radius.

Edit:

I guess the answer to my own question is no.

I bought a Jasper acrylic circle jig and just drilled and countersunk it for the 1400's base. The one I have only goes to about 18" or so, but I think they have a much larger one that goes to 52".

The last catalog that acrylic router trammel was in, was 2007 IIRC.  I went looking for it because I bought one off eBay and it seems like a no-brainer of a great accessory.  The maximum diameter for it is nearly 60", which was more in the range I needed.  It is branded "Festo".

Probably didn't do well in the US, given that its scale is metric.  And it was basically superseded by the MFS.  Too bad the MFS doesn't come in partial (and less expensive) kits just for trammel use.

Another option is to use Micro-Jig's circle cutting unit -- this is another great router accessory.  The MFS would be my first choice if I did not have anything as it is so versatile for a lot of things outside of just circles and you can easily expand it to widen your range.
