Nope but a solution OF2200  [tongue]

Could be something as simple as the cause being the cutter or collet.  Can you try them in another Festool router?

dont have access to another. I could try my dealer but a little short on time at the minute

Dean,

That's the only way I see eliminating the basic causes.  Sending the unit in for repair might be unnecessary, if you were considering that.

try a different cutter.
clamp the router to a piece of ply etc with one tct tip touvhing it. rotate the cutter and see if there is a gap . if the two tct edges are ok when rotated it cutter is probable ok and it is the router

alan i have tried with 2 of my larger cutters and it does it with both. this cutter has been used may times by be never with a problem

Probably the collet.

If you were unaware, never tighten a collet nut on a collet without a bit being fully inserted into the collet.  Also never insert a bit all the way down into the shaft.  It needs a little bit of room (a few millimeters) for the collet nut to tighten the collet.

ken i have had this router for 5/6 years, and the bit for a good few years too.

i understand how the collet works, i will take it to pieces tomorrow to make sure it is clean but there is no reason why it wont be as i always leave a cutter in there

Dean,

I know what you're saying and collets do wear out or get damaged which causes bit clamping issues and balance during rotation issues.  When you can, try a collet from your dealer just to eliminate that as the most likely source of the problem.  If that isn't the cause, then I would think it's an internal router problem, maybe the bearings.

i will try my bit in there router and my bit on my router thier collet to see what the crack is.

I treat collets as consumables.  I work my routers pretty hard and the collets do wear out.  I try to have a spare for the ones used the most.

Hope its the collet instead of the bearings.  Much cheaper repair.

Have you checked for loose screws?  The 1400 has lots of exterior screws.  That was a big problem with my old Bosch router - had to loctite everything to keep the pos from coming apart mid-mortise.

catch the end of the armiture with out the collet and give it a good turn and see what happens. if it spinns really easily or doesnt sound fluid but reattly like you can hear each bearing mooving then thair nackered. if there is a slight resistance there and the motor slows down fast after hand turning they are probable ok

Dean:

If you're lucky, it's just a dirty collet. It happens on occasion. In fact, it happens often enough that Festool has a different collet design that is an attempt at sealing extraneous material out.

In the 'States, the new collets were first associated with the OF 2200 and now are the replacements for the OF 1400 also.

Had the same thing happen on a DeWalt laminate trimmer a few years ago.  Tore up part of a job with a new and clean bit before I figured it out.  Had to re-do a long stretch of Formica as a result.  No fun.
