Does anyone else have problems with the dust shroud on the OF2200 router?

Mine almost never clicks down when the release lever is activated - sometimes it can be wobbled free, but often it is reluctant to do this.

I don't think it has ever been satisfactory - I cannot see any dust or stuff gumming up the mechanism and I cannot see any damage to the shroud.  It is now annoying me...

Take the base plate off and remove the shroud.  Then blow out the place it came from.  It probably has a bunch of dust binding on it.

It has been a while but, I remember having the exact problem you describe on a newly purchased recon tool.  I found the screw holding the green lever for the dust shroud either too loose or too tight (can't remember which) and it would not cleanly release the shroud.  I ended up adjusting the screw tension just a bit to obtain a clean release and haven't had a problem with it since.

Hi
If under warranty make use of it and service can take a look. I have six in the training room  [cool] and one does this but only occasionaly - when it does i remove the base and clean it through.

Phil,

Thats what mine does and that what I do. BTW I keep mines in the CMS 95% of the time. So it gets exposed to alot more dust then it normally would.
But it isnt that big of a deal really.

Sounds like you need a 2nd one for the other 5% of the time.  ;D

Nah, I use a 1010for the majority of my free hand routing. That little bugger is a kewl little router. I will use the 2200 for free hand routing when I need to use a larger bit, OR I dont have one in the 1/4 shank for free handing.

I tell ya that 2200 is plain awesome. Very well balanced and powerful. I accidently plugged in my PC 7815 router once and it fired up and chased me around the shop. I did it once with the 2200 it just sat there and hummed.....

Hi

Thank you for the various suggestions.  I have now had a proper look at this and solved the problem.

It was nothing to do with dust or other clogging up of the mechanism - the problem was the nib on the side of the shroud opposite the green release catch - this was a little too tight around the blue casing - solved by a little careful filing of the blue casing and the perspex nib just to allow the nib to release from its detent.

As ever, pictures explain much better:

Both mouldings were in good shape - I guess the tolerance is just too tight, which is why it had never worked properly from new.

Phil - thanks for your response - good to know you are checking in here (actually, the router is not under warranty, being an early adopter..., but in any event it would be overkill to send the thing in for a simple issue like this).

cheers

New owner of my first Festool tool - the OF2200.
I had the exact same issue and thanks to your post it was easy for me to solve it by using a small fine-grained diamond file to file a tiny tiny tiny bit off of the nib (took like 30 seconds sneaking up on it) on the opposite side of the green lever that should release the dust shroud and now it just clicks down when pulling the lever, just like in the videos.

A huge thank you for sharing this bit of information!
I know this is a very old post, but it seems that an odd one comes out every once in a while and not really worth sending it in for repairs for such an easy fix.
