Question

I have a new OF2200 (no miles on the clock), it utilises the automatic locking copy ring system.  Is it standard for other users of this router to find that when the supplied copy ring is correctly fitted that it is possible to feel dicernible lateral play on the copy ring?  Admittedly it's not a lot but it's there non-the-less.  My previous router had the copy ring screwed down so it was rock solid.

Is this a flaw of this fixing system, that it's impossible to have a quick release system with no play?  Does this "not a lot" play matter, i.e. is it that small that it makes no difference.  I'm sure I read a magazine review that mentioned this matter.

Your answers appreciated

Thanks Peter

But my problem is something else.  It's not the flatness of the phenolic base, but the actual copy ring that has decernible lateral (side-to-side) movement when locked into place

there can be a small amount of movement do to the quick change if you look at the metal tabs on your ring you can bend them in or out slightly to correct that movement but you should know that unless you are cutting dovetails you might never see a problem from this movement

Instead of using the term lateral could you use either Axial or Radial? Axial movement would be parallel to the centerline of the bit (up and down) while radial would be at right angle to the centerline of the bit (sideways). Axial play shouldn't be much of an issue but radial is not what you want to see. If it is radial I would be wanting to get it replaced.

here is the of2200 base with copy ring note that its vary tight fit there is no side to side play however as i stated before you can tighten up the up and down movement by manipulating the little tabs
