Congrats, Jack. I may be one of the last fence sitters.

Like you I was a fence sitter.  I researched the Kapex, read every post on FOG about the Kapex I could find, watched many videos and looked at one live at my dealer a few times.  I kept thinking my Dewalt is fine which in all honesty it was fine.  Then I decided to go for it.  I bought a Kapex and a Midi so I could dedicate that CT to the Kapex.  After 3 - 4 cuts I knew it was a good decision.  I just wished I had sat on the fence another 2 months so I could have gotten the discount.

Good luck deciding.

ahah so funny cause i said and did the same thing. "ehhh my dewalt cuts just fine" 3 months later im dressing it up and buying accessories for it. ;D

Can someone explain in Glass1's last picture the apparent overabundance of sawdust on the flat surface behind the fence? Is this normal? My DeWalt, when hooked to my CT doesn't leave this much dust. Two days and counting to decide.

Glass would have to explain the sawdust.  Could be that he did not have the vac connected, or he could have been cutting a lot of work that accumulated that amount of sawdust.  I have the Kapex and it does leave sawdust but still better than the two Hitachi sliders I have had in the past.

I unbolted my dewalt dws780 from the sawhelper. Bolted my kapex down. Most of the mess is from the dewalt. I was doing a bit of 4 3/4" vertical cuts with dust scupper removed which lowers dust collection. On most cuts with scupper in place and vac on DC blows me away.

Thanks NeilC and Glass1. Am I correct in assuming (or hoping) that most of what the kapex misses is heavy dust that drops and that the dust that would normally become airborne is mostly captured?

I always put a drop cloth down for the heavy dust.  The Kapex really gets the fine float everywhere dust for me.  I could probably capture more of the heavy dust if I altered the way I use the saw.

Thanks Peter. Although I'm struggling mightily I feel myself sliding ever closer to mousing on over to my dealer. The last unresolved question is the addition of a dedicated Midi.

Charlie,  it is a very good saw.  Mine finally got pulled out today after a long hiatus due to my situation.  I had it set up outside and didn't bring a dust extractor -didn't have room in the truck.  I spent a few hours cutting mdc with both the Kapex and my TS-55.  After seeing the amount of dust generated versus what I normally see I smiled remembering what it is like to use the dust extraction.  Then I swept up the dust.  Shame on me.

Sale moved me off the plate, I pulled the trigger today: Kapex, portable stand, wings & AC 36.  Me  ;D  Wife  [eek]    Shop (two car garage) is under renovation new LED shop lights, fire rock ....  That means the first use of the saw will likely be cutting cats and spacers.  That’s like using a Stradivarius violin for a 1st grade music class.  I've been lurking for over a year reading up on the Festool systems.  Thanks all for taking the time for the reviews, posts, photos, etc... tjs

Charlie - what kind of work do you do with your tools?

Kapex for me has a few great advantages
- accuracy, portability (lighter weight) and dust collection.  Plus it's part of the system.

I have mine on a Kapex MFT table with extension wings that I can also use on my MFT table and CMS table.  Works great with that flexibility in a small shop.

You will want dust collection if using it indoors - could be a Festool or another brand - some here use Fein's.  I would suggest you consider the 36mm hose in a short length if you go with a dedicated vac.  It will help with dust collection.  Lots of people here use a Midi due to the small size and portability with the Kapex.

Good luck - and remember there is a 30 day return window if you decide it's not for you.

Took the Kapex plunge and have not regretted it one second. The sale helped push me over. Checked the fence for square and level after hearing of several people having small issues, none found here. [big grin]

I took the plunge and will get my Kapex tomorrow.  What I am looking forward to and what I'm expecting from this machine is great accuracy.  I build furniture and I hope that the Kapex can deliver furniture quality cutting.  We'll see in the nest few days.

There is a thread talking about new Festool purchasers.  I will merge this into that thread.

Welcome to the forum Ibuilder and congratulations on the Kapex snag. -Neil, I'm doing furniture right now and that is mainly what I envision using the Kapex for. In the past, I would make my cut maybe a 32nd long and finish it with a shooting board and hand plane. this is really quicker than it sounds but I feel it would be nice to get a furniture grade cut right off the saw. This spring I'll be making greenhouse benches and plant stands. I'll keep the DeWalt for that type of work.

Fed Ex is bringing my Kapex today and last evening my son drove off with my old DeWalt and Bosch Gravity Rise stand - we're both happy!

Fell off the fence and ordered the Kapex / Midi combo today. Sorry for coopting your thread [member=4687]glass1[/member].

Congratulations Alevan.
Fortunately I don't have an immediate need. That's not to say I won't check the tracking once or twice.
