  I would be willing to bet they said three years because that is how long the Festool warranty is.

I want to know if you can 1 either buy the new fence system without the whole table and or can you replace the back extrusion with a new one so
that you can then use the new fence.  It seems that this should have been thought of by the engineers.  I am a proud owner of festool and geared my whole shop and way I work around the tools,  but I feel screwed by the change. Also is festool going to offer just the the basic table.

Good news and bad news.

Bad news first,
The new fence clamp is designed to fit the "V" groove of the MFT3/PRECISIO extrusions. Might take some doing to make it fit the older style of MFT.

Now the good news, the "new" fence is based on the older BASIS system LA 650 fence which has a compatible profile to the 1080/800. While not sold normally in North America, a number of members arranged to have them brought in through some of the dealers.

BTW,  a few other solutions to have the benefits of the LA650 or the MFT/3 fences for the "old" MFT
(stability, accuracy, larger surface, ease of install/de-install) have been investigated and described
