Old ruler barn find..

I found these in an old barn on the property of a house I'm working on, anybody know anything about them or where I can go to find out ?

As i was growing up and playing with my fathers tools he had a couple of these, as I recall he called them Blindmans Rulers mainly because the makings were large and easy to read. I still have one of these and use it often, it is folded at 9" and opens up to 36"  I find it handy to use both in the shop and my home.

Take care of them and use them often

As with Sal, I remember those rules from my dad's shop.  I might even have them kicking around somewhere in the deep cravases of my shop.  Last week, I came across a strange tool from his stuff that I had never seen before.  I have not taken a picture of it but some might know or be familiar with.  I had to look it up to figure what it is.  Stanley #49 bit gauge.  Once I found it, it became obvious how to use it.  I still have a couple of old bit braces and several twist bits that I pull out to use once in a while.  eventually, I will give my old #49 a whirl.

Your post made me remember about some rules that I have had stored away for over 20 years.

I have not seen another one of these. It is a 6 foot sliding rule. Each section telescopes out, instead of folding.

Wow, u are for sure the ruler king ...nice !
I wouldn't consider myself an antique tool collector but when I come across something that I know will be more than just ambience in my shop I will hang onto it

Oh who am I kidding, I found these also along with a craftsman table saw , gotta be 60 years old or better works great , I have no use for them but couldn't let them hit the dumpster. ....

Check out eBay. Some of the older Stanley's get reasonable bids. Usually they are in mint condition. I have a Rabone No. 1190 from my days as an hard rock miner that is worth way more than I paid for it.

Just curious with all of the hinges, joints, slides and considering they're wood, how accurate are they?

Anyone checked theirs against a standard?

Accuracy is not really a huge concern, if you use the same ruler for the whole project.

No different then mixing tape measures.
