I'm new to the group and am looking at buying a joiner. I've located a Lamello but it appears to be an older model that I can't seem to identify. The case says "Lamello Standard". I've tried searching for a model with that name but can't seem to locate anything. Anyone out there have any idea of this model? I've attached a photo of the joiner. Any help would be appreciated.

I believe 'minilo Standard' is the official name of the tool.  It's pretty old if it's not a 'minilo Top'.

There should be a product plate on the tool with the specific internal model number and build month/year.

I’d pass on that machine. If cost is why you’re checking it out I’d go with one of the many more recent knockoffs.

Hi Squall,

That's what it looks like, a Minilo. The product plate is missing but I found several images when I did a search.

Hi Michael,

Any particular reason you'd pass on this?

I used to have a Porter Cable 557, but sold it a while ago. I've decided to actually retire this time (I've said that before) and get back to woodworking so I'm recollecting things. I sold all my vintage machines about 8 months ago to a young kid who was going to open up a cabinet shop. Last month I was searching through the old interweb for tools and there was an listing with photos of all my machines. Sure enough when I contacted the lady who posted the listing she said that her ex and his son had bought all the machines to open a cabinet shop but the 2 of them split a little while ago. So I rented a truck and picked it all up. A few items must have been sold at a garage sale that the lady had, including the 557.

There is no adjustable fence and it looks like there is no means of dust collection. And you might need a new blade. This might very well be one of the first generation. Improvements have been made.

I still use my old 557 and I'd much rather have it than that ancient Lamello. Also have the goofy PC that preceded the 557. I'd give it away if it didn't involve moving a bunch of stuff to get the drawer open.
