On Festool sales

I threw away my sixguns when i got out of the army.  i agree with those who think this has gone far enough.  i have made it clear that i appreciate most of the posts from the individual named as well as all of the other sales people.  i did not expect everybody to agree and in fact I appreciate that there is oposition to my point.  As one of my HS teachers used to say, "You (meaning 'I') have made your (meaning 'My') point.  Put your hat on it and move on."

Thanks to all who have replied on both sides of the question.

What worries me is that vendors will be less likely to post now because of this thread.  I don't have any loyalty to any one vendor, since pricing is fixed across all people I like to spread the money around.  I have place large orders with both Bob M and McFeelys.  The only reason I haven't purchased everything from Bob is that I'm in NJ and the hit on sales tax was becoming pretty large.

I estimate I will still buy about half all remaining purchases from Bob M primarily because I like supporting the the smaller vendors, they are and alway have been the best part of the american economy.

What really bothers me is that I recently noticed that Joel M from toolsforworkingwood just started selling Festool so I sent him an email pointing him to the FOG.  Sure enough the next day this thread popped up.  I have purchased from his fine store and visited his location in NYC and can't speak highly enough of Joel or his operation, class act all the way.  I looked forward to sending some of my festool budget in his direction, but now I wonder if he wouldn't think twice about registering here.

Lets keep gripes about vendors or individuals were they belong, out of public view.  If someone has a problem with a member/vendor contact one of the admins or make use of the ignore user button, best thing for the board IMHO.

There is an advertisement and advertisement. Let say: I need to get info for super - duper new muffler for my drill. And I post query: Guys, do you know something about it? Official picture is too small and I can’t see details. Will it harm if vendor X immediately posted high resolution pictures with link: see more there (read: I’m ready to sell you right now). Some vendors show what you get in systainer and some other helpful info as well. (Reviews, additional docs, charts etc. Some tips are VERY helpful.).  It’s good to know about April 1st price increase. That’s clear message: “Do you want to save a couple bucks? Then order now!” But there should be a good balance. Too much pressure from vendor will bring negative results.

There are vendors and vendors. One vendor offers free T-shirt with any Festool tool purchase.  :o But when I send inquiry about specific product I received answer:  “hi, i dont know alot of detail about the tools and what works best with them but i can tell you our number and they can tell you everything you could want to know about the festool
Just call 1.800.xxxxxx, its the yyyyyy office here in City, State and ask for John and he can help you with any question you have. Thanks”
I just copy-paste their answer and wipe off phone number, city and state.
Did I call them?  They wish.  I’m still dreaming about my nice Festool T-shirt, but …  :'(
I placed that order and many other orders with different company. They didn’t insist to answer to my questions.  :)
Another sour thing happened when I come to local store to buy some abrasives and see new Domino in action. They have price for abrasives one or to bucks above “official” price. Will I buy more abrasives from them?  My first thought was: “What else wrong with these guys? Do they try to sell lemons?” I’d prefer pay shipping from different vendor and save my travel time.
Vendors don’t have to tell us how good they are. We’ll see how good they are from they eager response, willing to cooperate, helping with our needs.
It’s good to have some area with polls/feedback from FOG forum participants about specific vendors. It can be similar to E-Bay for sellers/buyers or Amazon’s for products. Mr. B.M and guys from McF. don’t have to participate. Their outstanding legendary service has well known. Is there special award for good retailers? Might be “Golden Systainer”?  :D

Larry,

Thanks for the kind words, but I have been working in the hospitals as a Respiratory Therapist for over 30 years ...and B M is not quite the moniker I'd like to be known by ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

Bob

Sorry, Bob Marino,
I didn’t want to be rude. I was under impression that some people are insisting when you advertise somebody or something. People well know who stands behind B.M. (Bob Marino) and  McF. (McFeely’s great guys first, then some screws second)

Thanks
Victor

Hi Tinker,

Although I don't agree with the premiss of your post....

The way you presented it, and most importantly the way you have responded to criticism has been very civil.

I tip my "Stetson" to you partner,

I agree with you Jim. It is too bad that we cannot just stay on the subject without someone  assassinating your character.

I don't know...  B.M.?  PP?  I wonder about the direction this thread has taken.

I just don't know what to do-do.  OOPS!  Sorry if I stuttered.

Hey Friend, this has been good practice for me.  My other sideline for many years has been an involvement in youth sports.  Currently, i am on the local P&R Commission, (30+yrs directly involved with youth sports, 20+ yrs as commissioner) and as such, i have been deeply involved in some very controversial issues over the years.  i guess it just becomes second nature ::)
Note:Most of the time, i think I'm referred to as Tinker without the prefix ( see previous post)

I hear that the parents are the difficult ones, not the kids!

Regarding this whole discussion on dealers, I'd like to echo and support Dan Clark's comments.  The way we see it, the Dealer Zone is a place where Dealers have almost no limits on what they can post.  That way, dealers have an outlet for promoting themselves here in the forum, but it is kept in a proper place.

I really like having dealers in this forum, and want them to be completely involved in the discussions.  They all know this, as I have written to each of them personally.

When you have 2500 kids playing in the various programs, you have to figure 5000 parents, each one of whom has THE MOST talented kid in the world playing the most important sport in the universe, and we have to make things work for all at once.  And then there are 20000 others who would rather die than to see taxes go up because of a new plot of grass for those kids to play on.  Well, you get the picture.  You guys, in spite of whatever ire I managed to stir up, are a great and VERY tame bunch.

Matt, i think your solution is a great one.  I agree 100%. I do hope they do all bring their knowledge here for the rest of the forum talk as well. Putttn, i did not have to break out any ropes, i use them to climb trees, not swing from them, so we will have no disputes about usage there either.  We should all have the new Festool catalogues in a few days and that will keep everybody occupied in deep study, the banks happy that we will all need to remortgage our souls to get all the toys we want, and all of our LOL's will be full of glee as our purchses at our toy stores will give them the green lite for even greater adventure of their own.  Smiles all around. ;D ;D ;D ::)
